surprise! she shoves a small, green packet into his hands, showcasing a grassy valley and several cone-shaped sweets below its title. she looks far too pleased with herself. ❛ so get this. /bamboo/ chocolates. i mean, it’s obviously not actual bamboo. and i think it’s more biscuit than it is chocolate, but who cares? they're not my taste. but i /had/ to. i mean, it's /bamboo/-❜ yes, athena, he probably gets the joke.

He stands there stonefaced as she explains the choice in gift. Then explains it some more. 

Still, he accepts the box. He knows he won’t eat all of them–between her and Nahyuta he has candy and chocolates enough to keep him in sweets to year’s end–but he’s had that particular brand of candy before. They were decent enough. And he’s not the sort to waste a gift.

And in any case, he has a gift for her too. 

“Right,” he said, producing a box of his own. “Well, if they aren’t to your taste, I trust at least these will be.”

surprise! though she cannot come in person for the delivery, xiuying still receives a box of cadbury roses, wrapped neatly with a bow on its top. it has a little note attached.‘i think there are some caramel ones. they’re orange. don’t get the wrong impression!’ it’s signed with a smiley face and a five-petaled flower scribbled in the corner of the card.

            ☪️ —— Her fingers turn ‘round the delicacies, a smile so desperate to be smothered pools outwards in her pitiful failure. How quickly she darts for the orange, giggling as she bit into the halfway mark and pulled it apart for the dripping of caramel to line her lips. ❝ Wouldn’t mind the wrong notion one bit, ❞ she grinned, pulling the remains into her mouth. ❝ She’s super cute. Makes my gift seem a little gay… hee. ❞

this was all supposed to be a memory, but the tingles in his hands almost made him think it was reality. he hears the gentle laughter of a girl, gently guiding his hands to the right keys of the piano. words between the two were fondly exchanged, and ren couldn’t help but to mimic the smile that he felt back then. it made his heart swell up; he was always weak for romance, and even weaker for his dearly beloved. he touches his cheek where a peck was given to him; the thief felt it, and missed it.

ren remembers how they nestled between his legs, continuing a piano lesson that was more done to do something than anything else.

though the last bits of the paper was given to the lawyer once she entered the office, the politician couldn’t help but to hum softly along with the song that was now played on the small radio.

“ moonlight sonata, hmm? what a good choice. ”
