"Alright, I think I have everything prepared," Aspen said to themself as they looked around the kitchen, seeing all of the different things they have prepared for their fancy dinner date with Cove. The two had officially been a couple for three years, but they'd been in an unofficial "we're not ready to officially date" relationship since the summer when they were 13, and they kissed for the first time.
While tonight may have not been their official anniversary, it was the anniversary of when they first kissed and Aspen wanted to make it special.
They'd made a full meal and dessert of their favourite foods, memories of previous dates. It was something that they knew made Cove happy, since he always seemed to enjoy food. It was almost like it was the highlight of the day whenever it was involved.
They dished up the meals and placed them on the table. Noelani and Pamela agreed to give the two the house to themselves for the evening, so Aspen had been setting up the whole afternoon, wanting this to be perfect.
After hearing the door bell, Aspen walked over and opened the door to see Cove standing there, wearing some semi-formal clothing, in comparison to his usual attire. Aspen was dressed up in a similar way.
"Oh, wow. Look at you, Mr. Handsome," Aspen said sweetly, blushing softly as they walked closer to him, teasingly adjusting his collar, running their hands down the front of his shirt after. Cove's cheeks went red and he chuckled nervously.
"You act like you're not absolutely gorgeous as well," Cove said, cupping their cheeks, running his thumbs against their cheekbones. Aspen blushed softly, getting on their toes and kissing him softly. After pulling away from the kiss, Cove's cheeks stayed pink and he laughed nervously.
"Dammit, you've been kissing me like that for five years and it still gives me butterflies," Cove said through his nervous laughter. Aspen smiled back at him and slowly pulled away, gently taking one of his hands.
The two walked towards the dining room table, both sitting down across from each other.
"Wow, fancy. I didn't know you had this in you, Aspen," Cove said teasingly, admiring the atmosphere and food. "I mean, maybe when we first met? But this version of you-?" He continued to tease.
"What? Do you prefer me when I was all frilly and pretty?" Aspen asked teasingly, remembering how they were before they came out. Cove quickly panicked as Aspen started to giggle to themself.
"Of course I love you exactly as you are! I'm pretty sure I started liking you more after you came out and started being yourself more!" Cove said in a panicked tone, and Aspen continued to giggle.
"Cove, sweetheart, I know you do," they said, reaching over and taking his hand. "Now, let's eat before the food gets cold."
Cove blushed and smiled softly before pulling their hand to mouth, kissing the back of their knuckles. "Happy anniversary, love."
"Happy anniversary," Aspen replied back softly, unable to hold back any of their joy, knowing they've gotten to spend their life with the love of their life, and will hopefully get to continue to for the rest of it.
