Zayn Malik reimagines Salman Khan's song 'Allah Duhai Hai' from 'Race 3'
Rucha Sharma | Updated: Nov 20, 2018, 11:36 AM IST
Zayn Malik is gearing up for the launch of his second album, the name of which is still a mystery. In the run-up to this highly anticipated follow up of his first album, Mind of Mine, the former One Direction member has been giving periodically boost to fan frenzy with single releases from the new album and a few covers of popular songs of different artists.
The latest cover by Zayn will make any Salman Khan or Bollywood film lovers Tuesday. The 25-year-old singer unveiled a dubstep style reimagining of the signature track of Salman Khan starrer Race 3.
'Allah Duhai Hai' track was first introduced in 2008 movie starring Saif Ali Khan, Katrina Kaif, Anil Kapoor in the leading roles. Different renditions of the song have been a common thread apart from the suspense-thriller theme of the stories.
The original song was composed by Pritam and featured vocals of Sunidhi Chauhan and Neeraj Shridhar. For Race 2 in 2013, Pritam roped in Atif Aslam, Vishal Dadlani, Anushka Manchanda, Ritu Pathak & Michie One to sing the song.
Race 3 changed the cast, with exception of Anil Kapoor, that included Salman Khan, Bobby Deol, and Jacqueline Fernandez in lead roles. For the third version of 'Allah Duhai Hai,' director Remo D'Souza enlisted the help of JAM8 (Tushar Joshi) to revamp the original created by Pritam and lyricist Sameer. Amit Mishra, Jonita Gandhi & Sreerama Chandra provided the vocal and Raja Kumari did the rapping part.
Taking inspiration from the third song, Zayn Malik twisted the music to give it more Dubstep/EDM undertones. While the beats of this reincarnation are interesting, what hurts the ear used to listening to Hindi Bollywood songs it Zayn's imperfect diction. Nothing a bit of training can't improve.
Zayn has released six songs from his upcoming album that features interesting collaborations with the likes of Timbaland and Nicki Minaj.

Forget Happy Holidays, It’s Officially #HappyBollydays
BY KATHERINE SINGH DEC 4, 2018
Christmas has truly come early this year because we are being #blessed with a whole lot of Bollywood moments—and I am loving it. All through November, South Asian celebs at home and abroad spoiled us with the gift of two massive weddings (with one featuring a JoBro) and a *major* song release. Clearly, ’tis (finally) the season for South Asian cultural appreciation.
I mean, I never thought I’d see a day when People was breaking down the intricacies of Hindu wedding traditions, or when my non-South Asian friends gasped over the stunning intricacies of Sabyasachi designs. All we need now is a cheesy holiday-themed rom-com starring Shah Rukh Khan (i.e. Bollywood’s answer to George Clooney). In the meantime though, here are all the ways that South Asian celebs are turning this holiday season into happiest of Bollydays.
Zayn tapped into his roots
Former One Direction member and current heartthrob Zayn Malik has always been a master of giving the fans what they want—and in this case, he *really* delivered. The singer, who is half-Pakistani half-British, dropped a bangin’ cover of Bollywood song “Allah Duhai Hai” on November 19. Originally from the Salman Khan-helmed Race trilogy, Malik’s version adds some dubstep vibes turning this power anthem into the perfect hype song.
In a February 2018 interview with ELLE India, Malik talked about his love for the Bollywood genre, having grown up watching actors like Shah Rukh Khan, telling the magazine, “Bollywood is so impeccable.”
His cover has already received more than 8.7 million views on YouTube, so here’s hoping that there will be more Zayn x Bollywood crossovers in 2019. Waiting with baited breath on a full-Hindi album, Z!

His style is very different to mine: Tushar Joshi of Jam8 on Zayn Malik's 'Allah Duhai' cover
Composer-singer Tushar Joshi speaks about the surprise of hearing Zayn Malik's cover of his hit number from Race 3 (2018) and why covers are not just another thing for a musician.
Mumbai - 05 Dec 2018 16:00 IST
Imitation is the greatest form of flattery, they say. By that measure, covers are perhaps a great tribute that one musician pays to another. As Tushar Joshi of Jam8 told Cinestaan.com, "You only cover a song if you really like it."
Tushar Joshi has some serious admirers. The composer's version of 'Allah Duhai' for the Salman Khan-starrer Race 3 (2018) was covered by international pop musician Zayn Malik.
While Malik has done covers before, it is surprising that he chose to cover this particular version of the song, with the exact same lines and rhythm.
"It came as a pleasant shock to me," said Joshi of the news, "But his style is different to mine."

Following are excerpts from an interview with Tushar Joshi:
It must have felt good when you heard Zayn Malik do a cover version of your song.
Well, in the beginning, I didn't know about it. Then I started getting messages continuously from friends and people I know. I checked it out on Instagram. I was actually shocked. I am extremely glad that someone from the world of international music did a cover on something I created.
He has done it well too, worked hard on the melody of it.
It would have been surprising, I bet.
He has tried very hard to [make it] work. His style is very different to mine.
You started by creating covers of songs yourself. It must feel strange, having a cover done on your own song.
I started by covering songs that I would like on YouTube. You don't usually cover every song, only those that you really like, and only if you can do it in your own, unique way. That is why this is a big thing for me, because Zayn is already a very known artiste. I have been following him since he was in X-Factor. So, it was a pleasant shock for him to cover my song.
