it’s Definitely my terrible inner crocodile fan talking, but my favorite has gotta be the baroque works one. ace’s is great too, though, and all the decks of the world stories.
What are your thoughts on the Luffy, Kid, Law color spread? The one with the giant parrots and the onigiri? Do you think it says something about the roles Kid and Law inhabit in the narrative wrt Luffy? About their personalities and drives etc etc?
i don’t have many analysis-type thoughts on the matter, really, but do highly recommend watching the progress video that was released on the official staff twitter, partly because watching oda at work is genuinely awe-inspiring and partly because it’s a really good demonstration of just how chaotic and spontaneous his creative process is.
also, you can see from that that he originally had law on his own bird and then changed his mind after he’d started coloring to put him on luffy’s instead, which is just, hysterical to me.

I am not a native Japanese speaker, so your guess is as good as mine, but I honestly think Chopper's shirt in the color spread might say スマカツ, sumakatsu, with suma as the shortened form of smart and katsu meaning cutlet.. What I am saying here is that Oda might be calling him a smart cutlet, a tasty but clever emergency food ration
hmm, i dunno, it looks to me like there’s another letter before the ス, and the last character looks more like a ガ than a カツ in my opinion, but yeah, that’s a possibility.
