Was watching Tony Kent a week ago on Whatnot draw a killer Red Sonja. He was feeling like keeping the fantasy character coming, so when his faithful companion, Shelley, started scrolling through blank covers for ideas. As she was flipping through, I saw this Hanna Barbera Future Quest cover. And when I was a kid, my favorite HB cartoon was Thundarr the Barbarian. And the idea popped in my brain in a second. Fantasy female + Hanna Barbers = Princess Ariel So I asked Tony if he knew the cartoon and character. And sure enough, he did. Earlier this year the insanely talented Mike Krome was offering a commission opportunity through the fine folks of Clan McDonald Comics. Having gotten a piece from Mr. Krome three years ago at Baltimore Comic Con I knew how great his commissions were. But I wanted to get something extra special, something I don't normally get for commission, and when I went through my blank covers I found it. Heavy Metal! So I only had to decide who I should get. The choices were obvious; Druuna or Taarna In the end I chose Taarna. Druuna is all kinds of sexy, but Taarna is just so incredibly awesome. And looking at this cover. I think I chose wisely. Mike, thank you once again for the stellar commission. Got a #mailcall from the fine folks over at Clan McDonald Comics when I got home this afternoon. A little while back they had several commission opportunities all at once. Taking advantage of it I had a cover piece commissioned by one of my favorite artists, Mike DeBalfo. I was then able to get that artwork colored by one of the colorists, Ula Mos! So last year Mike, and several other artists, drew a tribute set to Mortal Kombat on a series of Notti & Nyce covers. By far the best of the set was the Scorpion homage drawn by Mr DeBalfo. However it was the chase cover to the entire set and I was never able to get a copy for my own collection. It has become very hard to find. So when CMC opened up DeBalfo commissions I knew what I was getting, but deciding on which cover became the question. I settled on the Hell Arisen cover because I found the title fitting. I want to thank Steven McDonald and Clan McDonald Comics for another amazing cover opportunity. Mr. DeBalfo, thank you for the amazing piece. Ms. Mos, your colors bring it to life! I can't wait to see you colors on the Sajad Shah piece I also sent in. My latest commission from the incredible Tony Kent! A number of us fans were on an Invincible kick and asked him to draw characters on different Star Wars covers in a Tyler Kirkham Homage. Among the characters were Darth Maul, Anakin Skywalker, & Ahsoka Tano. I won the auction for the Kanan, the Last Padawan cover so I asked for Kanan Jarrus in the Invincible homage, but with Freddie Prinze Jr's likeness. I think this came out bad ass! Yet another book totally worth the wait. SR International Comics had a commission event with Aldrin 'BUZZ' Aw a while back. BUZZ is a tremendous artist so I had to take in this opportunity. But COVID and real life gets in the way of even the best laid plans. Last December I finally got to see how my commission had come out. I immediately loved it and had Steven Rose send it off to CGC for grading. After a few months with CGC down in Florida, the book is finally home. Got another incredible cover from the incredible Tony Kent today. Tony's had a little difficulty with Whatnot because of Canada Post, so I hit him up directly for a commission. He let me know some ofvthe new covers he got in, and when he told he had a Princess Leia cover I knew I had to get a new Hutt Slayer Leia for my collection. The cover arrived today and I love it! I let Tony have free reign on the cover, and I'm blown away how it turned out.
