#JackedKirby - Mirror Mirror on the Wall.... Whose The Fairest Norse Goddess of them All? 🔍🔍🔍 Mirror, Mirror.... I used that particular line from Snow White because I found an interesting mirror image created by Kirby in #Issue150 of Thor, which features the return of Hela!!! 💥💥💥 The Cover of #Issue150 (March of 1968) is a legendary one in Jack’s Thor run, with Hela in all her headpiece wearing glory standing defiantly over a seemingly dead Thor as his spirit begins to ascend out of his limp body.... all while Loki’s floating head menaces the scene from above!! The red coloring and intense action conveyed on this cover make it a fan fave, and Hela popping up in the last Thor film (Ragnarok) have helped boost its popularity as well... but once you delve into the issue we find something quite interesting. 💥💥💥 Jack decides to mirror the cover on an interior splash page of the book, recreating the scene by reversing the sides in which Hela stands and Thor lies dead.... in the interior shot she is know on the left and Thor’s body is on the right, but it’s an almost identical shot!!! 💥💥💥 Even thought the shot looks very similar, it is not just a replication of the cover image (duplicating images and using them more than once in a book is a trick that was used in comics for years). We can see that the images had to redrawn because the body angles, though similar, are definitely different. We get a totally different perspective of Thor’s face... seeing much more of it from above. Reversing the image wouldn’t result in this new angle. Notice the coloring on Hela is also very different, with much darker shades of green being used on the cover the on the interior page.
