One week since Drew came home from the hospital. Our lives have changed greatly; freedoms temporarily suspended. I thought I’d be able to go back to work when he got home, no longer needing to drive to a hospital every day. But we can’t leave him alone just yet. 🌺 We depend on things we never needed before; constant flow of oxygen, wheelchair, a walker and medicines. These foreign things replaced paddleboards and his electric bike. ☀️ We try to feel like nothing’s changed, getting back to the things we used to do, that we can still do now. I make a good meal that we enjoy at the table. We watch our favorite series at night; Yellowstone and 1883. ☀️ One of Drew’s favorite things is growing plants. He missed his backyard. I’ve always been the plant killer in the family, but while he was gone I made sure I kept everything alive for him. 🌺 It took a few days to get Drew to the backyard to be with his plants. After his fall on that first day home, I was afraid to attempt another move outside. We waited for Lynn, the Physical Therapist, to come and show me how to do it safely. I needed to get my confidence up. If Drew got hurt because of me, I wouldn’t forgive myself. ☀️ Drew got to enjoy his backyard for the first time in 4 months. He watered his plants from a wheelchair. He got a little sun on his skin. It was a beautiful day. ☀️ Enjoying the simple pleasures in life; when we can’t travel or surf or even go to work, we try to remember to enjoy the beauty in nature, food, each other. That’s what Drew and I are focusing on now. Everything else will wait. 🍃🍃🍃 Xoxo PS: thanks to @robmccarty for the @visslasurf clothes - Drew loves the front pockets in all the shirts! Perfect for holding his pulse-oximeter and it looks and feels great! 🙏❤️🌺 #drewbrophy #covidlovestory #covidrecovery #lifeisstillgood #truelove @drewbrophy (at San Clemente, California) https://www.instagram.com/p/CbLHiOWpa3z/?utm_medium=tumblr
