Croque-monsieur is a classic French sandwich made with ham, cheese, and creamy béchamel sauce. It's a comforting and indulgent treat, perfect for a cozy lunch or dinner.
Ingredients: 8 slices of white bread. 8 slices of ham. 200g Gruyre cheese, grated. 4 tablespoons butter. 4 tablespoons all-purpose flour. 2 cups milk. 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg. Salt and pepper to taste.
Instructions: Start by heating the oven up to 400F 200C. To make bchamel sauce: Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium-low heat. Add the flour and stir constantly for two minutes. As you whisk in the milk, make sure it's smooth. Stirring often, cook until it gets thick, which should take about 5 minutes. Take it off the heat and add salt, pepper, and nutmeg. A little toast on the bread slices. Place 4 bread slices on a baking sheet. Put some bchamel sauce on top of each slice. Grate some Gruyre cheese and put a slice of ham on top. Add another piece of bread on top. Cover the sandwiches with the rest of the bchamel sauce and top them with the rest of the grated cheese. After the oven is hot, bake for 10 to 15 minutes, or until the cheese melts and turns golden brown. If you want, you can serve it hot with a side salad. Have fun with your tasty Croque-monsieur sandwich!
