Jim frowns; it's a small thing, quickly pasted over with a smirk of amusement. "Should it be comforting or more terrifying that we both though it was a good plan," he tosses back.

The cell is grimy. It smells damp and disgusting, suggesting a space that's occupied frequently rather than sitting empty. Despite the hours that have passed, Jim hasn't gotten used to it. He hopes they aren't here long enough to adjust.

"How's your shoulder?" Dark eyes glance at the other, worry tugging around the edges.

Erica was not one to be intimidated, in fact, she preferred to be the one intimidating others. She was also more observant than people tended to notice, the constant meetings with the Cayuga within her realm of knowledge. She hummed in the transporter room, rocking on the balls of her feet as Chief Kyle beamed Batel on to their ship. "Mornin' sir, Captain Pike is dealing with some paperwork, so he asked me to escort you to his ready room." Not showing it on her face, the Starfleet face as she liked to put it, Ortegas smiled at Batel.

"captain." kathryn greets through the viewscreen of voyager, looking every bit of polite despite her exhaustion and desperation for a cup of damned coffee, but pleasantries demand her attention first. she's been sent to assist @cptnbatel in a particularly tricky series of missions regarding a hostile new species, given the seven years of delta quadrant experience she has behind her. it's rare she gets out from behind her desk these days, so admiral janeway is more than pleased to plunge headfirst into danger.

"i find it much better to talk in person, and i hope you'll agree. permission to beam aboard cayuga?"

christine accepts the description with an unbothered air, working around marie's protests and the security enhancements installed into the biobed with a half-smile that was stubbornly perched on her lips. no amount of doom-saying, or self-doubt could knock it off. there was something in the air, she could not put it into words, but she felt things would be alright; there was nothing she could do for joseph or their friends. keeping enterprise running was out of her hands. what she could do, what she would do, was save marie.

whether she liked it or not.

❛⠀⠀⠀could be worse... they could be borrowing from actual batman villains, or a midnight summer’s dream. ⠀ ⠀ ❜ ⠀ ⠀ charming little, inappropriate comment does what is supposed to do: for a second, christine isn’t thinking about all the ways this day can go wrong, or how her close the pendulum swings towards death, she is too busy with thoughts about the scarecrow dressed as puck; as a bonus, coated as it is in humor, the tremble in her voice is barely noticeable.

good or bad humor, it doesn't matter, as long as it distracts and hides, she is a fan of it.

katya is such a delightful writer !! she has a way with words that make me want to read every single thread of hers that pops up onto my dash. she also gave ellie her dad on her multi , so i am always grateful for her for that - because you can't have one gibbs without the other !! i also love how they have taken marie and made her , her own. i love the character - i love katya and i just !! can't wait to write more ellie and marie things in the future xoxo
