I received a comment on my most recent chapter of “this body yet survives,” in which Jiang Yanli snaps on Jiang Fengmian.

Essentially, the anon said that was culturally inaccurate in a big way, and that I should probably find a beta who is Chinese.

It’s a good point, and I feel like I failed as a researcher, which sucks. I know that infringing on people’s time is something I hesitate over, too, particularly in the mdzs/cql fandom since there’s a lot of frustration in the Chinese diaspora fandom over Western fic writers.

So I’m not really sure what to do or how to fix it, especially since the chapter is already out there.

Do I revise and tone down Jiang Yanli’s statements and add an author’s note addressing it? Do I keep it as her having a major unfilial outburst and explore the potential fallout?

I’ll need to talk to someone in the Chinese diaspora about how to move forward, and try not to beat myself up over the mistake.
