“You must be tired of seeing all these animals by now," Maurille jokes, easily laughing at nothing. However, just as he begins he also quenches the light giggle in a matter of seconds. His face turns serious once more. "So we're switching things up a bit. From the moving to the unmoving. We will have you help us collect a specific type of rare flower."
"It only blooms on a certain part of this island. The natives of New Zealand would sail over here to cultivate it. They'd grind up the petals to use in their tea. It is said to provide a calming effect. Someone suggested a dream-like trance if enough is taken but..." Ivan trails off with a shrug. "Given the lack of the plant itself, it's hard to test out that theory."
"Now, it's located in an interesting place. At the base of the tallest mountain, there is a narrow tunnel. It's a short narrow walk which leads you to an open meadow, which I know doesn't quite make sense since you had to enter a mountain but we've tested it out and you can't fly into the area. The meadow is where the flower grows."
"This is where things get interesting. It might be due to the fact that it's actually an enclosed space but...people mention that sometimes the area shrouds up with fog."
"It doesn't end there, they sometimes see themselves in the fog. Like a clone, staring right at them. It is tangible and can speak to you."
"We have been told it's sort of like a boggart. But instead of presenting your worst fear, it points out the negative emotions within you, such as your insecurities or dislikes and seeks to plunge you into despair."
"But remember it's an illusion. Ignore it and you will be fine. Unfortunately, since not everybody has faced this situation, we haven't found a solution to the weird phenomenon yet. So all we can say is take care, there has been no actual proof of any sort of physical harm to people. It's not real."
Hello! The next task can be completed either alone or with other students. The task was created as a chance to expand more on your muse's pst and the possible concealed emotions which they may carry. Let them confront it! Or alternatively, it would be a good chance for them to open up to another muse. The freedom is yours here. You have until the end of August 1st to complete the task. It can either be an edit, a solo or a thread. Feel free to message us if you have any questions, otherwise enjoy!
“Latrodectus katipo: spell or spider?” he asks. So unchanging is his neutral expression and low, monotonous drawl that one could mistake him for being displeased. Yet, he swishes his butterfly net like a content puppy wags its tail. This is peak socialization -- this trailing behind the backs of his peers, incessantly quizzing them about the local insect population no matter how much they groan or whisper “ who’s bright idea was to invite him? ”.
“Any guesses?” he says. “Come on, you guys! Why organize a nature walk if nobody’s interested in the native fauna?” Wind ripples his all-black windbreaker, as well as the wispy black bangs creeping over his eye like the leaves of a willow tree. Fellow hikers slow down against the gust, but he presses forward quicker. It gives him a chance to walk besides his peers, rather than behind them in a constant game of catch-up.
“Latrodectus katipo is the endangered, distant cousin to the black widow spider. Theoretically, its venom would make a great undetectable poison probably I bet for sure maybe. So if anyone gets bitten today, I’ll be extracting a quick sample before--!”
Joon stumbles. He falls onto the path’s rocky terrain face-first and grazes his chin. It’s only a small scrape, albeit with dirt and gravel peppering the wound. His right shoe slips off and rolls down the mountain, tumbling faster and faster until it’s launched off a ledge. And floating down after it is a large, foam insole.
Normally, a situation like this wouldn’t be a cause for alarm; he’d simply brush off his hands like nothing ever happened. But this isn’t a normal accident. This is a disaster. There’s no chance for a summoning charm when the nearby trails are swarming with Muggle tourists.
He closes his eyes.
Sprawled out on the trail, twitching as he catches his breath, he’s not unlike the spiders he’s droned on about all morning.
“I’m a daddy long legs who just got his legs clipped.”
Calculations were made beforehand, and I’m the end, the only way he or any other cabin member could get harmed is if someone decided to act impulsively. Without doubt, Clotarie would secretly side eye the certain Gryffindor who respectively latched to his group. No worries, he figured, as long as he shackled the first initiative before any his group mates could. With that, he will be able to flee the site and search for scales all on his own.
Here, the males stood, bewildered and/or enchanted by the beautiful creature before them. The opaleye dragon would undoubtedly leave a special impression on the Slytherin as its scales inflicted twinkles upon his hazel irises. Every movement, every twitch of its body made his eyes flick over in the direction, as if acknowledgement was mandatory—as if missing a second of the dragon was a shame.
He paces slowly... carefully around the large nest, noting down the circumference in meters when the measuring tape he had previously set out on the ground. When finished, he summons the tape back into his pocket and stands upright again. Finally, hazel eyes meet multi-colored ones, and in that moment a lovely shrill went down his spine, ordering him to fall into a fluid bow. He complies to the extrinsic force, of course, insidiously, with a hand placed on his abdomen, and without letting his head follow suit just yet. Only seconds later does his head drop down accordingly; through that, the dragon ought to have known that the wizard was captivated by its eyes. But respect must come first.
When the respect was rightfully earned, the indications led Clotarie to straighten his back. There, he motions for his group mates to go next, and hopefully, after his example, their attempts will go just as, if not, more smoothly.
“hey kid,” dane calls out, because really, who’s stopping him now that even the headmaster is trying to find a break away from him. “y’know how they region locked the pokemon in pokemon go? well, guess what!” he whips out his phone from his sweater pocket and speaks again before they can get out a response, regardless if they were going to say something or not, “new zealand has a whole ‘nother range of pokemon to catch! i’m trying to form a squadron of people to come pokemon hunting with me, but... you’ll do for now. let’s go!” he nudges the younger student forward with his arm like a mother hen would do to herd her baby chicks. “lets go, let’s go.”
"It's been a long trip, we hope you learnt a lot," Ian states towards the crowd of students who hover around him in the lazy afternoon. Maurille murmurs an agreement, head nodding. Ian continues, "so thank you, everyone, for putting up with us." At this, his partner laughs. "But without your help, our progress would have proceeded a lot more slowly."
"We want to show our appreciation for your hard work," Maurille speaks up, rubbing his hands together in front of him in absentminded thought. "It's not much but tonight we were thinking of holding a bonfire. A bit chilly but that should certainly warm everyone up."
"Have some music... an all you can eat barbecue courtesy of us..."
"A good wrap up for before you all leave."
Hello everyone! This is the last leg of our event. Timeline wise, the Bonfire will be held on August 10. We will allow for starters in regards to the event from today until August 18. Thank you for sticking with us through all of this, we hope you and your muse(s) will be able to relax through the final stretch. As a note, this means your muse will be back in actual summer weather from August 11th onwards, wherever they wish to go, and school will resume September 4th. A friendly reminder once again, make sure to change your muses school year on your Tumblr profiles!
“Here we have a weyr of Antipodean Opaleye dragons. While subjective, many people do consider them one of the most beautiful dragons, with pearly scales that line its body, and glittering multi-coloured eyes that have no pupils," Maurille gently instructs as he guides the students down into the valley where the resident dragons are resting.
"Their eggs are pale grey and muggles sometimes mistake them for fossils," Ian adds on. "Which you will not be doing. I wouldn't call them friendly but they rarely kill unless they're hungry and there's more than enough sheep around here for them. They also recognize Maurille and me."
"So while we can assure you some safety, please do remember that at the end of the day they are still dragons. Dragons are dangerous, so please proceed with your task carefully. The staff will be keeping watch but a lot of it will also have to be through your own self-control. You will once again be working with your roommates."
"The first task is to earn the respect of a dragon. While the Opaleye is considered to be one of the least aggressive dragons, walking around them will still require you to show an utmost respect. So remember to keep your eyes towards the ground and bow to them. Make sure they bow back before progressing to the second task. Please walk around their nest. Do not enter. I repeat do not enter if there are eggs I cannot assure how they may feel. Please walk around the nest and measure its circumference. Then write this down along with any other observations you have of the creature itself. Finally, please find an Opaleye scale and bring it back to us. They shed often so that should be of no issue. We will need it for later this evening."
“Now good luck!”
Unlike the previous event which was a speed based event, for this one you simply need to complete the thread with your roommates for it to count for points for each of the participating Houses. Remember to tag all your roommates! Please title the thread “Dungeons and Dragons” and link the main when complete. We will give six days for the event thereby ending it at 8am on July 23rd. If you have any questions feel free to message us otherwise enjoy!
There are many students jostling around the platform once again, luggage in tow. In comparison to the school year, however, the numbers are certainly much smaller. It's reserved exclusively for the older students and they certainly make their excitement known to their surroundings. Chatters are loud but as always the silence which forms after a summon for attention by the Headmaster speaks even louder.
"Good morning students! Thank you for coming so early, we understand that many of you would certainly prefer to sleep in. We trust you enjoyed your one week break! But we also hope that you will enjoy your trip with us even more. Now come this way, we should begin to board."
The students close to him would most certainly be able to see the smile on his features as he motions to a door hidden away from plain sight until now. It opens with a wave of his hand and stays open for him to shuffle through along with the many other students and their respective luggage. Leading outside, they find themselves on a tarmac reminiscent of an airport.
In front lays a silver hovercraft, sleek in design. The insides are even spacier in appearance than from the outside. With one look it becomes clear that it has been constructed with the use of magic. For many, it is a familiar vehicle seen every single year to bring them to their destination. But for some, it is new and certainly greeted with wide eyes as they make their way onward to familiar faces of staff and professors greeting them.
"Welcome aboard students!" The Headmaster only speaks again once everyone has sorted out their seats and settled down. "Take the time to relax and enjoy yourself, the flight will be fourteen hours long to our destination of the lovely island of New Zealand."
Our long awaited trip has finally arrived! We will be giving out more information a few hours later which will slowly begin to detail the trip itself.
But before that! Finally an announcement in regards to the House Cup. We would just like to say....
CONGRATULATIONS TO HUFFLEPUFF! YOU HAVE WON THE HOUSE CUP! GIVE YOURSELF A PAT ON THE BACK AND YOUR FELLOW HOUSEMATES A HUG!
The final points are as follows:
Gryffindor: 1870 Hufflepuff: 3179
Ravenclaw: 2192 Slytherin: 2854
We will be ressetting the count for the upcoming school year. To congratulate Hufflepuff on their win we will be giving them a head start of 70 points!
What sort of ideas could you give us for potential event threads? Is it going to be a sort of free reign of fun? :00
Hello! Without spoiling too much, a short part of the trip such as now includes the students wandering around the cities of New Zealand. For these, we would be providing the city names so we would suggest to search around the tourist positions if you would like and seeing if your muse’s roommates or friends would be interested in going to those! Later on the students would be moving closer to the outskirts. For those ones, we will have small themes which you can follow for plotting. Or if you would like to have your own survival themed plot we would say go wild! I hope this helps.
