C4 Shipping - One Month In
With Overture finished, and the first month of C4 wrapping up, I wanted to get a bit of a glimpse as to how things are looking.
For some context: this data was collected manually from AO3 from the Friday following a given episode to the Thursday of the next, in order to represent the fics being posted after a given episode. Given the ability to add/remove tags and backdate or delete works, it may not represent what is on the archive currently, but instead what was written during those weeks.
There were over 300 (!!!) fics posted in the Critical Role: Aramán tag. In comparison, the same first four weeks period saw 161 fics for C3 (out of 414 fics in the tag total), and 165 fics for C2 (out of 219 total) so C4 is off to a very strong start, probably a mix of being an easy entry point, so many characters to write about, and the really vivid plot beats and character dynamics already present in the Overture.
For the top ships, Tyranny/Wick was the first fic posted following e1, and while it was only the #1 per week for e1 and 3, has generally been sitting very high, and is the #1 romantic pairing. Occtigan (Occtis/Kattigan) was the other early strong start, but has dropped off in e3 as the two move to different tables, and with e4 was overtaken by Halaire (Halandil/Bolaire) which has the highest number of fics in a single week (19).
The actual #1 relationship however is the platonic pairing of Occtis & Thaisha - while it had a modest start early on, the drama around Occtis in e3 & e4 has put it in the top ship. Filling out the rest of our top spots are the platonic versions of Hal & Bolaire and Tyranny & Wick, as well as rising star with e4 Julien/Occtis (Juliocctis?), still-romantic-exes Hal/Thaisha, hot-for-paladin Teor/Wick, and Nightingale-linked soulmates (?) Vaesha (Thaisha/Vaelus) tied with former soldiers Azune/Teor.
For a more detailed look of all the ships, plus graphs per character, I've got a ton more stats below the cut!
I'm finally (mostly) caught up on CR, so here's some stats I've collected!
The number of cold opens each character has had:
The number of cold opens adjusted for how many characters were in the scene:
The approximate amount of screen time each table has had since the soldiers split in episode 3 (beginning the count after the opening credits):
-Soldiers: 22 hours 7 minutes
-Seekers: 26 hours 7 minutes
-Schemers: 26 hours 35 minutes
(Note, if we start counting after the full overture the seekers would be at 23:34 and the schemers would be at 24:29. If we didn't count the time they were in the Soldiers episodes the Seekers would be at 22:28 and the schemers would be at 22:20.)
Extra bits:
-The Seekers had the most consistent screen time (within their arc) ranging between 3:03-3:28 per episode
-The Schemers were a distant second with their screentime ranging from 2:38-4:31 in their arc
-The Soldiers were last, ranging between 1:49-4:06
-Hal, tied for first place in cold opens, is the only character to appear in a cold open during their table's arc
Not to be all DnD stat nerd over critical role but Vex and Percy’s HP.
Vex has a CON of 10 and 143 hit points at level 20. That means she has adds no CON modifier to her hp. So she rolled on average over a 7 every level. Since the Ranger hit dice is a d10, that’s slightly above average.
BUT Vex is not a full 20th level Ranger. She has 7 levels in Rogue. The Rogue hit dice is a d8. Which makes her average 7+ roll for hp even more impressive.
Percy however shows that Taliesin had all the dice luck in Campaign 1.
Percy has a CON of 14 and 202 hit points at level 20. That gives him a CON modifier of +2, meaning 40 of his hit points are from his Constitution and the rest are rolled.
Percy is a single-classed fighter and the Fighter hit die is also a d10.
Dividing 162 by 20 gives an average rolled hit points of OVER 8 for Percy.
Meaning, Taliesin rolled a d10 TWENTY TIMES and his AVERAGE roll was an 8, 9, or 10.
EDIT: just remembered that you get the full value of your hit dice + CON as your hp at level 1.
So Vex’s average roll is (143 - 10)/19, which comes to 7 exactly. Above average, especially considering her multiclass.
Percy’s average roll is (202-12-40)/19, which brings his average down to 7.9. Still very impressive, but not as broken as first thought.
In my previous post I broke down numbers in the pursuit of "amusing myself by guessing Travis's next character using statistics." However, I filtered out subclasses that hadn't been playtested on 5.5e, despite PCs at the table using those subclasses, so I am making an amended post.
For race I hewed pretty tightly to the implied limitations of Aramán: the seven races of the shapers + half-orcs, fae and demons [tiefling] and then narrowed it down from there.
Classes and races were removed from consideration for two reasons: Travis has played it previously (outside of one-shots) and/or there are already two or more PCs using it in Campaign 4. All subclasses of existing PCs (including Teor) were excluded.
Grog, Fjord, Bertrand, Chetney & Cerrit were the characters used for elimination, removing barbarian, warlock, fighter, blood hunter & rogue, as well as goliath, half-orc, human, gnome. Cerrit doesn't count towards eliminating beastfolk due to how broad that category is and he's signaled a willingness to repeat paladin so I kept it in despite Fjord/Teor. Sorcerer, wizard and orc were excluded because of other C4 PCs.
This leaves us with 292 possible combinations, or a .341% chance of correctly nailing the race/class/subclass of the character. (If you JUST want race and class you have a 2.326% chance of getting it right with the scope I'm using.)
Initial offer still stands: if you correctly predict the character, whether in your own post or in the replies or tags, you should DM me/shoot me an ask/tag me and I will bestow upon you bragging rights or a picture of one of my pets or something. Also, go buy a lottery ticket lmao.
Tables under the cut.

How you know the Mighty Nein are now loaded.
Giving 50 gold to each of the villagers who want to leave. Vilya suggested it would be about 65
50 gold is a load os money especially if you've not had any for however many years you've been on the island.
50 x 65 is 3250 gold pieces each
So including Vilyas chunk of the treasure that's 406/7 gold from each of them
Just counting the gold and platinum pieces they have 4, 149 gp each (also not including the bag 'o' gems Jester has plus diamonds and the huge emerald they also have)
so taking away the 406gp to each person that wants to leave (also not taking in to account families and such) they still have 3743gp
3743 Gold Pieces Each!
Their "silly" decision to bring andvocado back has banked them loads of cash.
There not on Vox Machina levels of rich but this is a start.
