Considering we’d just learned that Ashton’s (business) relations can take a turn for the worse quickly and somewhat unpredictably because of the work they do.... I am not surprised about their reluctance to commit to the word friend.

He says it’s a trust thing; not about him disliking people, or being uninterested or uncaring when it comes to friendships.

Which makes me think it’s a matter of, “I burn bridges very regularly, and encouraging any sort of mutual trust is just going to make it more unpleasant for both of us when things go up in flames”
