We can acknowledge that a big part of the reason Thimble is most mad at Bolaire is that he was being the most rude and confrontational about the Sundered Houses theory right?
Murray was the source of the theory that Thjazi was working with the Sundered Houses, that's absolutely true. Azune and even Hal even expressed their own doubts about Thjazi- again absolutely true.
Bolaire has continuously and consistently put his foot in his mouth when talking to the people who loved Thjazi, about Thjazi.
It's the reason Hal got angry with Bolaire at the Hallowed Round when even he was feeling the most doubtful about his brother's intentions.
It's the reason why Thaisha said 'Let's be mindful about how we talk about Thjazi in his brother's home'.
Thimble was not happy about any of the doubt that was being cast of Thjazi's name, but no one else who was casting doubt was snorting in derision about the idea that Thjazi would think twice about killing 5000 people, no one else said 'Just because you think he was telling you the truth doesn't mean you weren't also being fooled and lied to' (paraphrased) and no one there (apart from Julien and Vaelus) was known to already hate Thjazi.
Murray implied that none of them might know Thjazi as well as they would have liked; Bolaire directly challenged Thimble's closeness and trust with Thjazi.
Some CR4 post-Convergence thoughts, especially with the parties splitting up again:
I’m slightly disappointed that Bolaire and Tyranny are not going to be at the same table. There was something interesting starting to happen there, between her wearing him and … that scene in the tailor shop. There’s a fascinating resonance there, that conversation she had with Kattigan while he was killing the tailors in the back. Tyranny ‘she is an archetype not a person’ and Bolaire ‘I am an object not a person’, both of them immortal and born in suffering … But, at the same time, they’re both only barely making steps on those journeys, it might be more interesting to watch them both make it a bit further on and then get to compare notes?
On a similar note, Azune and Vaelus would have been incredible to have at the same table. That moment at the lake was so amazing. Two people clinging by their fingernails to the past, and the Vaelus sacrifices that for a better future, and of all people it’s Azune who sees it. But, again. Ships passing in the night. Hopefully they will meet up again and compare notes.
Of course Hal is not leaving the city. He’s attuned to the Hallowed Round. On both a mechanical and thematic level. That was his whole … He chose to make a stand. To accept revolution. Despite wanting to run all the way up to the last moment, he chose to face down the Creed. Openly. He can’t back down from that now.
Oh god, I wish Thaisha was staying with him, though. The partners they made throughout Kother’ai. And, also, just on a survival level. Thaisha, as a Lloy, is a much more difficult player for the Sundered Houses to casually pick off. But. Druid’s gotta druid. It’s … Heh. It’s the same reason she left him the first time too. They work so well together. But Hal is a local boy, working for his city, and Thaisha’s responsibilities were always bigger.
I’m heartbroken Azune and Bolaire won’t be staying together either. They just … I’m gonna miss them. On the upside, Murray and Azune are staying together! I love them so much. I’m delighted. And I’m actually fascinated to see how Azune and Wick work together, what with the whole ‘anxious traumatised messes who turned out to be freakishly good at lying to bad people’ thing they’ve both got going. Well. Assuming Sam’s inherited dice curse is sated, at least.
Seekers 2.0 is much more of a grab-bag. Putting Thimble, Occtis, Julien and Bolaire together is going to be mildly-to-majorly explosive. Fascinating, mind you, but explosive. Kattigan’s weird vibe with Occtis is going to be interesting to explore as well. And Bolaire … I do very much want to find out more about the Panto, Rauwyn, Piper’s Down, what actually happened during the Shapers War, which hopefully this quest will start us towards. Vaelus might be an interesting person to put beside him while that’s happening, too. But the group as a whole still feels very disparate. I look forward to seeing how they gel together.
I wonder where Travis will end up. I kind of hope he winds up meeting Thaisha somewhere druidic, or with the city crew, if only because the Seekers do feel more than a little unstable already. The Seekers do have a lot more options to just pick a guy up hitchhiking, though. Eh. We’ll see him when we see him.
All in all, dynamics I’m going to miss most: Azune & Bolaire, Murray & Bolaire, Azune & Murray & Hal & Bolaire, Tyranny & Kattigan, Hal & Thaisha, Thaisha & Julien
Dynamics I wish we’d gotten more than a brief window on: Tyranny & Bolaire, Wick & Bolaire, Azune & Vaelus
Dynamics I’m most looking forward to seeing in the new party groupings: Julien & Thimble, Kattigan & Occtis, Azune & Wick
Forever favourites, will never die: Azune & Murray
This episode was just so so good, everything went by so quickly just scene after scene of perfection. I’m loving seeing different combinations of these tables. I feel like there could be a bit of mixing up happening especially with that comment thimble made to Julien that the needed to go to the orchard, we will see. But yeah all of it, officially cemented the schemers as my favorite table even though I love them all, they just really shined tonight. Luis keeps trying to make me cry and I will not fall for it. Also lots of juicy lore dropped and important alliances made, I cannot wait for next week. Consider me sat
