If a tree fell in a forest (or Rob Ford, Bieber, Miley Cyrus {Or any other media hogging figure}), and no one was around (or paid attention) would it make a sound?

I'm all for the story of the day. I love it when my newsfeed is ablaze with the latest scandal and my funniest, most sarcastic friends/followers are at their best. Slicing and dicing these public figures with meme's and one liner's I wish I were clever enough to concoct. 

So why complain? Like the rest of us 'normal' folk, I crave variety. I long to jump from one hit story to the next. Now, Miley has been pretty quiet as late. She had her twerking, naked swinging moment to sell her album. Got it. 

Let's then, move to Bieber. Now, I don't know if you've ever been to Stratford Ontario, but it's not very... poppin'. Respected theatre scene, and that's it. Bieber received the opportunity of a lifetime and he's just concerned with squandering it away. 

And that Rob Ford. I... 

Well, you know. 

So my question is, if we all just stopped paying attention to the nonsense, would we still hear it? Or would it go away?

Would it still happen if we aren't there to listen? 

Without getting into the philosophies of the age old thought experiment, I'll end with this. We all speak about the crazy actions of Ford and Bieber, etc. because it's in our face constantly. It's how we communicate with strangers and long lost friends and family. Bieber's crazy is our common ground. But these stars, they know it. They sort of feed off of it. Best way we can help... I think... would be to ignore it all together. 

Wishful thinking, yes. And in reading this, and me writing this, we're feeding into their crazy. 

We're caught. And Inception, but with fame and misfortune instead of dreams. 

Sigh.

Hey Toronto! While our mayor gets drunk and speaks patois at Steak Queen in Rexdale, the city and its residents are less safe because of his vote to scrap one of the 123 firetrucks in Metro Toronto.

Fire fighters don’t just put out fires, they are all trained paramedics and are integral first responders in an emergency situation. Every month, more and more people come to live in this city and City Hall needs to look forward to protect everyone in the event of an emergency.

The mayor is complicit in this budget slashing ignorance, as is the rest of the executive committee. We pay property tax to ensure week long power outages and emergency situations can be prevented and managed in a coordinated manner. Right now, all it seems to do is pay their wages.
