This pattern was inspired by The Little Brown church which I attended as a kid. I spent a lot of time scooting under the pews, and creating my own underground passages, with only legs and feet of fellow churchgoers to interfere with my journeys. This pattern is stitched on 16 ct Water Lily Aida by Wichelt and is available in the 2018 released book, A Cross-Stitch Christmas published by Craftways.

ROM curator Deepali Dewan takes a closer look with special guest speakers, Met curator Shanay Jhaveri and Critical Craft Forum co-founder Namita Gupta Wiggers. Shanay Jhaveri explores how artists have responded to the city of Chandigarh, designed by the Swiss-French modernist architect, Le Corbusier, in the early years of India’s independence, while Namita Gupta Wiggers shares the thinking behind “craftscape”, a term she coined to describe the reframing of craft as something more than just a commodity. I wanted to make nutcrackers that matched the magic I felt the first time I saw the ballet. It was gauzy, icy and pastel and the feeling I got stuck in my mind for decades. I used Mill Hill beads and Kreinik blending filament to add sparkle. These three guys are in the 2020 book, A Cross Stitch Christmas.
