Inspired by this post by @crashingcryptid !!! Thank you so much for responding to my anon ask about being inspired by you!! I love your writing sm!
I love love loveeee thinking about Simon Riley as a husband. A shit husband. Insufferable if you didn’t love him so much. Huge man, incredibly capable, so smart and efficient when it comes to his career. But with you? At home? Please.
This is a man who is not willing to lift even one finger. Cooking? You’re joking. Cleaning? Don’t even try to ask. Making repairs that you know he knows how to do? You’re smart, you can figure it out.
He’s got better things to do. He’s an important man. A lieutenant. He’s so busy at work, why would you make him come home and have to do chores? Nevermind that you also work and you also don’t want to come home to chores.
The only thing he is ever willing to begrudgingly do is grill when his team comes over to watch soccer football. Gotta maintain an image. “Don’t wan’ them to think I’m useless, do we?”
He is useless. Worse that useless, he’s simply unwilling to be useful. Whether you’re a man, woman, nonbinary, anything, he sees it as your responsibility do take care of everything. “I jus’ have better things t’do with m’time, sweetheart. Y’get it, right? So understanding, aren’t ya, swee’ thing?“
The one thing you’ve been begging him to do is check your car. Some light that you don’t understand is flashing, maybe ifs making some noise you don’t trust, whatever the problem is, it doesn’t feel important enough to spend all that money at an auto shop. Well frankly, you just don’t know if it’s important enough. You also don’t know enough about cars to know if you’re getting scammed and Simon sure as hell isn’t going to go with you. “Si, c’mon, please. You know all that car stuff, it’ll take you like five minutes just to check it.”
“You’re smart, luv, y’can figure it out. Watch a video or something, you’ve got it. It’s easy. M’tired, I haven’t got the time. M’out doin’ impor’ant things all day, you know that, don’ you?”
Sure, it might be easy if you had even a clue where to begin. God, you are so sick of him acting like everything he does at work offsets everything you at work and at home.
So one day, it’s just too much. You decide that if your husband won’t look at your car, you’ll call up someone you know will.
It’s the weekend. Simon had been called to base for a few hours in the early morning, something about extra training or paperwork. He’s always vague about the details.
When he finally gets home, he’s expecting something to be ready for lunch. He notices your car is in the driveway, not in your garage. He assumed that maybe you finally decided to pull it out and try to find what’s wrong yourself. Heh. He knew you’d cave. Now he doesn’t have to listen to you nag about it anymore.
When he walks through the front door, he can smell food cooking. Something new that he can’t place. He’s smiling to himself knowing you listened to him about the car and still tried to have a meal ready for him.
It isn’t until he nears the kitchen and dining area that his smile falters. He can hear you. Laughing. By yourself? No. Not by yourself.
“It’s true, bon!” I’m telling you, sweetheart. That’s what happened.” “Oh I don’t believe you for a second! Oh wow, no way-“ “Babes, I swear it! I was there! That’s exactly how it went.” There’s no fucking way. No way you did this. Simon can’t believe his ears. When he turns the corner, the feeling is indescribable.
Johnny is standing in the kitchen, wearing one of your aprons and messing with two different pans on the stove. Kyle is tidying up the mess in the kitchen that one can assume the chef created. Price is sitting next to you, beaming and relaxed, at the dining table. He’s covered a bit in grime and grease, shirt filthy.
“Wots this then?”
The air is sucked out of the room for just a second, until you recalibrate and say “oh! Hey Si! I just invited the guys over for a bit. John mentioned before that he knows his way around cars, too, so I asked if he could help me. Johnny and Kyle tagged along.”
“Never miss an opportunity to see your lovely home.” “Barely took me 20 minutes, though it could have been real bad if they’d kept driving like that, Riley.” “Figured I’d make lunch. Me Ma used to make this all the time. There’ll be enough for ye, too, LT.”
Simon’s fist is opening and clenching next to him. He doesn’t even notice as he tries to retain even some of his dignity. “Ye gonna let the Captain eat at the table all dir’y like that?”
“Oh! Well I figured he could take a quick shower here, borrow some of your clothes maybe? You’ll see him on base on Monday, right? He could give them back then.”
Oh the fucking audacity of you. Simon has seen the way these men look at you. He’s heard the comments made about how nice you look, how funny you are, how smart and kind. He knows how they feel. He just didn’t think you did. Now, he’s sure he’d been wrong.
You knew. You always knew. You just waited. Begged and begged for help from your husband until you couldn’t take it. Now he’ll have to sit here while one man cooks for you, one man cleans for you, and one man, who just repaired your car, is going to shower in his shower and put on his fucking clothes.
Another one inspired by @crashingcryptid !! Loved this post! So cute
I’m thinking of dog Soap again, what a shock. This time properly dog hybrid!Johnny
Imagining you’re a dog walker who lives very close to a nice walking park. You spend loads of time around dogs, pet sitting, do a bit of training as well
You’re comfortable around dogs, you know how to tell when a dog is generally safe to interact with and when it’s best to stay away
Sometimes you see this group of huge men with a bit of a silly looking dog. It’s a big, lighter colored dog, with its tongue almost always sticking out
It has a darker strip of hair going down from between its eyes to the bottom of its neck, almost like a mohawk 🫣
It often likes to come up and sniff you and the other dogs, but typically goes back when its owners call. It’s usually the big scary one of the group that whistles for it to come back
One day, you’re only walking one dog, Janet, you’re able to be a bit more relaxed as you stroll along with her
You notice the funny dog, but don’t see its owners anywhere. It seems relaxed, if not a bit more still and more…focused? Than it usually seems
You assume the owners are somewhere near, the dog has never been on a leash, but it never goes past the boundaries of the park without one of its owners
As you finish up your walk, Janet’s owner meets you at the park to drive her home and allow you to walk straight to your own home
It’s not until you get to your door that you hear whining and whimpering behind you
You slightly turn to see the funny dog, looking up at you with big sad eyes and holding up its paw like it hurts. You can’t help but turn around fully and try to asses what’s going on
“Oh…aw poor thing, you ok buddy? You in pain?”
You’re talking like it can answer, but it’s mostly to give yourself a moment to see if this is an injured dog that will fight you or one that wants help
The dog starts to limp pitifully towards you, giving the impression that it wants comfort more than anything
You try to look past it-oh. Him. Try to look past him to to see if his owners are anywhere near, but it’s getting dark now and you don’t see them
You don’t have it in you to leave this poor dog outside in the cold at night, so you slowly lead him inside after letting him sniff at you for a bit
You can only assume he recognized you and followed your smell back from the park
He doesn’t have a collar, which you find deeply irresponsible, but you’re hoping maybe he’s chipped or something so it’ll be easier for the owners to find him
You’ve got plenty of extra dog food and toys, but your first priority is to check that paw
However, every time you try, the dog just pulls the paw away and licks at your face
It would be much cuter if you weren’t so worried about him, but you decide for tonight it’s a lost cause. He seems to be able to walk on it better now, so you’ll let him rest and try to walk him around the park tomorrow to see if his owners pop up
They must be worried sick. Their dog though, seems to be having a wonderful time cuddling up with you on your couch. He’s presenting his belly to you and sticking his tongue out like there’s nothing wrong at all
His owners seem nice enough, so it’s a surprise he doesn’t seem more stressed to be away from them all
It isn’t until a few hours after letting him in that you get a deep, loud knock at your door. You go to get up, but the dog decides that is the best moment to try to crawl completely on you and keep you in place
He’s surprisingly strong, but you’re able to maneuver him away so you can get up check the peephole. You recognize the people on the other side
When you open the door, you hear “Hello mate.” “Ah hello, good evening-“ “got our dog.”
Inspo post!! Still don’t know how to do the link thing😓
