Snark Notes -- Downton Abbey: Season 1, Episode 2
Lord G snapping at Lang is a little heartbreaking
Patmore is full of one-liners and I feel like she doesn't get enough credit
Cora is almost child-like at times, I don't know where it comes from
So Matthew is like Captain America going on tour and boosting recruitment
Carson silently judges everyone, doesn't he?
How can Lord G feel useless? It's war. National pride or not, you don't want to be blown to bits
Mosley is too awkward for words
Nothing gets past O'Brien does it
Dr. Clarkson is pretty with it despite being outside everything. He catches a lot too
Carson's disapproving look when Edith brings up Matthew. He is so not a fan of that boy after he broke Mary's heart. It's heart-warming how fatherly he is
John Drake? The guy with the heart problem?
"Edith! You are a lady not Toad of Toad Hall" HA! Edith is desperately trying to be useful
O'Brien's scene with Lang is one of her rare moments of tenderness. She can be so gentle when she wants
Mosley stop trying to flirt with Anna. It's not working
I really don't mind how Lord G throws his weight around as an Earl in order to get things done. Thomas isn't worth the trouble, but still it's nice of him
Also the Crawley's in general using their money/status to get things done isn't as awful as people make it out to be (I'm thinking of the later scene with Branson, which is less tactful I will admit)
I feel like Thomas doesn't even care for O'Brien- probably because we see her soft side more than his
Nice bald spot Sir Richard
Mary needs to stop taking advice from Rosalind
They should stop sending Branson for Sybil…that's…that's not going to work out the way they think it is
Branson see through Thomas and his hand right away, doesn't he?
Lord G is so torn up about not going to the front
Matthew's eyes light up when he sees her across the table
Edith needed to just not say anything about the dress
Cora and Mama Crawley springing to action was sweet and Mary wanting to help
O'Brien looking out for Lang is kind of sweet
Mary visiting Carson and his story of her as a young girl is one of my favorite moments between them
Carson sure has a high opinion of Miss Swire. Ha.
The blind solider likes hunting and fishing and shooting…and is secretly Hemingway?
Sir Richard can't even dress in English tweed, how can he adapt otherwise
New favorite line: "Even I will concede that the heart does not exist for the soul purpose of pumping blood"
"Blotted her copy book" is an odd way of putting it
When Thomas is reading the blind solider his letter is one of the only times we get a glimpse into Thomas's character. I wish there were more because without it he's just kind of a jerk
Edith is such a dude during her farmer phase- wearing pants and drinking out of a bottle
Sir Richard threatening Lavinia- what on earth could she have done wrong? She's so harmless looking
The poor Doc has no authority, does he?
I wish Lt. Courtney (the blind soldier) got more time on Downton. He died too soon
Downton makes for a good hospital, BUT I don't think Mama Crawley should have been the first to say it. It makes her insensitive to the propriety of Downton (Man- I sound like Carson…)
Mary's second train scene of the season, both defining her relationship with the two men in her life
I wish they had showed the discussion of Downton becoming a convalescent
Branson's look of hope when he sees Sybil in uniform saying she can't go back to the way things were
Mary's "Of course I want you" SHE ISN'T TALKING ABOUT DINNER, MATTHEW
I do not understand Anna's weird sending a child to the moon and her love for Bates comparison
Lord G sneaking up on the kitchen staff
The discussion about the hospital comes a little late
Cora snapping at the D.C. then going straight for the wine. Power-mom is back
Daisy and William are more friendly then couple-y
William's mini speech to Lang is really sad considering what happens…
Daisy's I've-done-something-wrong face is the BEST
"You won't have to marry him when it comes to it" We'll…about that…
Mary and Anna's discussions about Sir Richard are really insightful into their dynamic - they are total bros
Anna's whole I'll-never-love-again-like-I-love-him stance about Bates is sweet, but a touch dramatic
Edith looks so disappointed with the letter from the Drakes- but which does she miss the job or the man? Or both?
