CUE THE OPENING DRUMS BEATS TO "PUNK IS DEAD" & "BANNED AT THE ROXY" RIGHT ABOUT NOW.
PIC INFO: Spotlight on a rare shot of Penny Lapsang Rimbaud (born Jeremy John Ratter, 8 June 1943), since drummers hardly get any love at live gigs, co-founder & drummer of anarchist punk rock band, CRASS, seen here performing live with the band in the early 1980s.
ALT 77: "When you first formed Crass, was the agenda immediately to imbue the music with a political message?"
PENNY RIMBAUD: "Yes, but it was more that the political message imbued CRASS rather than CRASS deliberately promoting politics. We simply wished to share our ideas with anyone who wanted to listen.
ALT 77: "Would CRASS have worked in any other way other than as a “political band”?"
PENNY: "No, that’s if by "political" you mean a band whose sole interest was in radicalising lives, be they ours or those of others. Is that "political"? I guess it is, but that is surely in an amorphous, non-political manner. All CRASS wanted was a little bit of truth."
