A TRULY CRUCIAL EVENT IN PUNK/ UNDERGROUND HISTORY -- CRASS FINALLY CALL IT A DAY IN 1984.

PIC(S) INFO: On Wednesday July 11th, 1984 at Aberdare Coliseum, Wales, UK, English anarcho punk band CRASS performed live for the last time, playing a benefit show for the miners' strike gripping the country at the time. The group broke up permanently shortly afterwards.

"CRASS always intended to disband in 1984, and true to their ideals as always, they did exactly that when that year came around. Even for those with no taste for the band’s brand of confrontational punk, they deserve recognition as one of the relatively few acts in the music who attempted to live their values, and not just sing about them."

PENNY RIMBAUD: "Yes, but it was more that the political message imbued CRASS rather than CRASS deliberately promoting politics. We simply wished to share our ideas with anyone who wanted to listen.

ALT 77: "Would CRASS have worked in any other way other than as a “political band”?"

PENNY: "No, that’s if by "political" you mean a band whose sole interest was in radicalising lives, be they ours or those of others. Is that "political"? I guess it is, but that is surely in an amorphous, non-political manner. All CRASS wanted was a little bit of truth."
