Do you have any info about Jesus not being white? I'm caught up in an argument with someone who is claiming that because he was Jewish, he was white.
I really wish that people who ask me questions like these could take a bit longer of a perspective and also realize that dozens of articles are written a year on whether or not any of the figures in the christian bible even physically existed, much less “proof” existing about what race people living presumably in the United States today would have considered any of them to be. I have literally no context or clue about whatever argument you’re currently embroiled in, and I decline to comment on any of it. Throwing vague concepts/misconceptions around with very little purpose, context, or grounding does nothing for anyone.
Although I’m sure there are plenty of web pages all about “proving the bible with science”, these should be taken with a mountain of salt considering that “proof” is not a word used in scientific methodology, despite popular misconceptions. I am not Christian, nor do I have any particular horse in that race so to speak. Figures from the Christian bible as represented in art and text from various points in history, however, are concrete objects that can be examined and discussed, and that’s much, much more my wheelhouse. These works tell us about the people who created these images and descriptions, however, NOT about the figures or people they are representing.
What we DO have is questions that can be explored, like, “What did medieval European artists, theologians, and writers believe Jesus looked like, how is this represented, and how/why did this change after colonization and American chattel slavery?”
Those are things that we CAN know, or at least discuss.
