Well, I certainly wouldn't wanna pressure you, but, if you want my opinion...
Homestuck is a thing that is (imo anyway) completely... unique, I guess? It's like the first thing in its genre or medium or whatever. I hope more follow, but right now it's kinda the only thing that combines mathematical principles and programming with big grand ideas about life and philosophy while also managing to be incredibly silly and have an epic, all-encompassing plot. Every single character is well-developed and their own person with own goals, motivations and personality and their interactions are just... yeah. That's not what I wanted to say.
What I WANTED to say is that, just like with that music that I never would've guessed I'd like if you described it to me, I think Homestuck has to be experienced at least a little before you can definitively decide whether you like it or not. And even if you start and don't like it, it may be necessary to read a bit from later on as it grows and evolves to decide whether that is something you'd be interested in because while there is a good part of the fandom that thinks the beginning is ridonkulously awesome (and a few livebloggers as well), a part of the fandom also does not and sees it as something to be powered through to get to the good stuff.
The characters don't use 1337 speak. There is one character who uses it and, though I didn't actively hate 1337, Homestuck made me like it a whole lot more. The characters have ridiculously varied typing styles and a lot of them are really normal. same as on tumblr. some have certain numbers replacing letters. some have multiples (2, 4, 8) of certain letters or put something before or after a certain letter. some include no caps, all caps, anything in between. zero punctuation, super punctuation, EXCITED PUNCTUATION, etc. some include puns (which are seriously impressive). and even if some are annoying, there kind of ARE over a hundred characters (and the best part is there are no minor characters, just different levels of major) and things change between them pretty quickly. 20 pages here, 20 pages there... I personally think it shouldn't be much of a problem.
as for the cursing... uh.... there is some, yes, but I think that *starts chuckling that eventually grows into full-blown guffawing* for the most part the swearing is incredibly silly. a little crude sometimes, but just... I don't wanna spoil it and right now nothing comes to mind anyway (reasons why I should reread), but two characters in particular have these adorable and incredibly creative curses that never repeat. they're just.... you have to be there.
okay I just looked it up and in the first 2000 pages the word "fuck" and its variations appear 124 times and the word "shit" and its variations appear 163 times. I do not know what that tells you, but I thought I'd put it in.
and the blood.... it's no more gory than FMA:B. As in, it's basically exactly as gory as FMA:B, if I remember its goriness level correctly. PLUS the bonus is that since some of the blood's not red, you can pretend it's paint if you're too uncomfortable. ;) but really, the goriness comes up rarely (and then usually in copious amounts that are still not VERY excessive). mostly it's just people having shenanigans.
as for the length... I think that sometimes people exaggerate it. I mean, it IS long, but right now I'd compare it to.... a four season drama show. maybe four and a half. 100 episodes of 41 min each, let's say. some people can do that in a month. some quicker than that. some much slower than that. basically, if you were about to watch Chuck or Fringe or Castle (as it stands today at 105 episodes) or all of How I Met Your Mother tbh, that is approximately what I estimate Homestuck's length would be. it IS long. but ER was more than three times that length and people still marathon that, so it's all relative. plus you can take it slow. or do what I did and get addicted very very unintentionally and blow through the whole thing in less than two weeks with minimal sleeping.
it's basically I'd recommend EVERYONE to try at least once. I didn't think I'd like it from things I'd heard about it. and here I am. completely obsessed.

ONE THING THOUGH sometimes it uses a lot of flashy gifs/animations. that is something to be wary of, especially later on. I think I got a bit of a headache from watching fifteen particular seconds of Cascade earlier. idk if that's something that bothers you or if someone has made a non-flashy LP of Homestuck (with the amount of epileptics on the internet, someone must have, right?) but that's a thing I've noticed lately.

like okay none of the lead actors are probably professional cheerleaders but Ashley Tisdale is pretty much a professional dancer and the girl who plays Alice has practiced karate forever and the guy who plays Louis did really good work with basketball on One Tree Hill (still can't believe it's the same guy; I mean I see how he looks like himself, I immediately recognized him, but he just looks so different! I didn't really like him on OTH but here he's... just.. HOT and GREAT) and Aly Michalka... idk, probably has danced a lot as well? tbh I've only seen her on Easy A and Bandslam other than Hellcats, but I think she was a Disney teen or a Nickelodeon teen or something, right? they need to know how to dance and sing
and I'm sure there are loads of inaccuracies with how competitive cheerleading actually works (TV gets everything wrong)
but lemme just say I like this version and I might like the reality even better and just WOW COMPETITIVE CHEERLEADING WHAT A GREAT ACTIVITY I WANT TO BE ABLE TO DO THAT (BUT I KNOW I NEVER WILL) AND THE NEXT PERSON WHO SAYS IT'S NOT A SPORT WILL GET THE SAME SPEECH SAVANNAH GAVE MARTY IN THE PILOT BECAUSE THEY'RE MORE ATHLETES THAN SOME OTHER SPORTS FIELDS I CAN THINK OF (not sure about high school cheerleading, though; I don't know enough about the subject)
anyway Bring it On is now at the top of my movies to watch list
and competitive cheerleading is now among my favorite sports, along with figure skating and gymnastics (and ballet)

I have made several myself, and I *think* I may have received a few last year? If you are accustomed to doing this and you like me and your first thought when reading that I will be having a birthday semi-soon was "crap I gotta figure out what to make for Crazy", fear not. The options I have lined up are little underdogs that are very, very, VERY dear to my heart: they are short (one season at most) and they, unfortunately, have little to no fandoms on the internet. And for some I've never even met another person who likes it. Not even on the internet. I cannot talk to anyone about them. DO YOU KNOW THIS PAIN. Of course you do; you're in fandoms. You know it. So I ask you to sympathize, and consider the following fiction (these are ALL under-appreciated. By people first, not networks first, unlike other underdogs such as Young Justice), lined up in order of how much I am desperate to flail with somebody about it:
The Parasol Protectorate (2009-2012, sequel series coming); book series of five novels (Soulless; Changeless; Blameless; Heartless; Timeless). Honestly, you can just read the first one and I will be happy with that. It's standalone (unlike the others) and not very long either. I just want SOMEONE to know the amazingness that is Alexia Tarabotti. So basically imagine Victorian London. With steampunk. Vampires and werewolves who are openly out and about (humans fight tooth and nail to have the chance to get to intern with them, sort of, and possibly become supernatural themselves eventually), and the cream of society, which has even adjusted to accommodate the night life they keep. Supernatural science. Twenty-six-year-old spinster with a parasol to whack people on the head if needed, too smart for her own good (and her disapproving family), who has a very, very rare genetic condition which negates the immortality and powers of the supernatural people around her. Headstrong and rash alpha werewolf detective whose nether regions she may or may not have accidentally injured with a porcupine once at a dinner party. His quiet and bookish beta; also a detective. Vampire with excellent taste in clothes who knows everyone's business always and might have an agenda of his own; or he might just enjoy the company Alexia provides with her unusual knack for science and her touch which turns him mortal, which is a thrill. Primitive androids (robot with flesh). Clueless best friends with an affection for ridiculous hats. Short Queen Victoria. Romance. Mystery. Strange family past. Amazing scientific theories about how the supernatural world works (that are always changing!!!!!). Unexpected twists. Queer positive. And in the second one, this really, really awesome woman enters the picture, as well as travels around Europe start. The language is just a pleasure to read. And they're really funny and engaging. And just great. Please read, at least the first one. Oh, and sass. LOTS AND LOTS OF HIGH-QUALITY SASS. “How ghastly for her, people actually thinking, with their brains, and right next door. Oh, the travesty of it all.” “A vampire, like a lady, never reveals his true age.” “You are about as covert as a sledgehammer.” “She filed the image away as an excellent and insulting question to ask the earl at an utterly inappropriate future moment.” “I may be a werewolf and Scottish, but despite what you may have read about both, we are not cads!” “Highland werewolves had a reputation for doing atrocious and highly unwarranted *things*, like wearing smoking jackets to the dinner table.”
Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip (2006-2007); TV show of 22 42 min episodes. Basically it's about a bunch of writers, directors, actors, and network executives making a comedy sketch show while trying to keep their private lives and interpersonal relationships out of it (spoiler: they all fail) while making social commentary on the ridculousness of media quality and censorship and sassing each other. If you think media is important and are frustrated with how some people think it's just mindless entertainment, this is the show for you. And also if you want a language boner. And great acting. And superb characters. And deep history within the show. And adorable ships. And great everything. I've written far too many posts on the subject of why you should watch Studio 60, so just... please do it. If you didn't know, this is my favorite show of all time.
The Class (2006-2007); TV show of 19 21 min episodes. A bunch of people who went to third grade (and, in some cases high school) together reconnect (or, you know, just meet if they didn't remember each other) at a party and decide to keep in touch; first in pairs, then in two pairs each, then in threesomes, until they eventually form a supergroup of sorts (even though I'm pretty sure I could still find at least three pairings that have never shared a scene together). FUNNY FUNNY FUNNY. I have never encountered a person who has seen this show and not loved it. And I've LOOKED.

I'm still kind of dazed about it because WOW what a good show.
I guess the main thing I want to say is... WHY THE FUCK DID NOBODY TELL ME EVERY SEASON WAS GOOD YOU INTERNET PEOPLE MADE IT SEEM LIKE SEASONS 7, 8, AND 9 WERE LIKE UNWATCHABLE OR SOMETHING

SEASON 8 WAS MY FAVORITE TO WATCH IN THIS WHOLE MARATHON
I was so afraid I wouldn't like the show once Lucas and Peyton left... but honestly? I think that made it better. I mean... I don't know what it would have been like if Peyton had stayed and just Lucas had gone. But man I'm just so glad Lucas left. I... I don't even think it's anything against him (even though the fact that An Unkindness of Ravens is a thing that exists and is praised as this amazing genius book annoys the hell out of me because he literally just described real life events. His life and the lives of everyone around him are eventful, but if it weren't so, his book would suck. yes, yes, I know it matters how it's written and maybe it was this deep introspective piece that nobody else could have ever captured quite so, but I don't KNOW that. And he fucking used the actual dialogue that was said in real life. And he wrote passages like "Brooke Davis is such and such." or "Peyton's amazing" or something equally as... mundane. The passages that Peyton read (and listened to) over and over again were a great booster for her, but for anyone else? why should we care about the fact that the author thinks Peyton is an amazing person? And I can't imagine that everyone around him was okay with airing their deep personal problems in a book for the whole world to see. Honestly, I'm not even sure if he asked them permission. The entire book just bugs me because it was never explicitly stated to be an autobiography. It was presented as fiction as far as I saw and that's not okay. The fact that he wrote The Comet slightly redeemed his writing abilities in my eyes, but still, his career and the attitude he has toward it makes me groan). But It's not personal, honestly. I'm just... I really really hate it when I'm supposed to love a character just because he's the main character, the unequivocal lead. He can treat people like shit and sometimes get called out on it (Karen is freaking great okay), but most of the time gets rewarded for it. When he's better and faster and greater and angstier and happier and more desirable than anyone else. For no discernible reason. When the degree of his (or her) supposed awesomeness gets shoved at me constantly. Really, it's rare that I actually love a main character in a TV show or a book. I usually like them moderately, but the fact that they stand out so much in how the narrative treats them (so special, so wonderful, so lovable) just instantly turns me off to characters I might actually love otherwise (Harry Potter is actually the first example that comes to mind. when I think about him as a character, he's a freaking great one. by all logic, I should fall over myself to love him and his sassiness and his struggle. but then I think about him in the context of the narrative and I'm just like "eugh no". it's been a while since I reread the books, so I won't be able to tell you exactly what it is that bugs me about his treatment, but I've felt this way ever since first reading them. also Bo of Lost Girl. Olivia of Fringe. I mean she's my baby but... :/ Emma of OUaT. and a bunch more. there are ones I actually do love, but few). So Lucas, the annoying little main character, left and it actually improved the show for me.
Also, I think I suffered from HIMYM SYNDROME with the last few seasons. Or maybe the show did it for me. I don't really know, but I really had a lot more fun watching the seventh and eighth seasons than the other ones. I think it's the fact that... before, characters did act goofy and funny, but it was amid a larger scene/plot/context of drama. Career drama, family drama, relationship drama, or life and death drama, but drama. There were always a bunch of engaging plots going around and they were exciting and that was fine, they brought us a lot of great moments and development and such.
But in seasons seven and eight, I think there were a lot more moments when it all slowed down and the characters just... spent time together. For no reason other than enjoying each other's company. No overarching plot (or little of it). And then we got such gems as the pot brownie episode with a side dish of men going camping, Quinn babysitting Jamie, Julian babysitting Jamie (everyone babysitting Jamie, really), the morning after the bachelorette party, the thanksgiving (CHASE I FREAKING DIED), Jamie's birthday party, and Puerto Rico, and the poker game, and just... lots of shenanigans.
Then season 9 picked up again in terms of great big plots and was angsty, but in seasons 7 and 8 enough time had been spent getting to know these characters that they could have sat around reading books and making commentary or asking each other to pass the popcorn and I would have liked watching it.
It's a certain state of... tranquility, maybe, in shows, that only comes when at least four or five seasons (and/or INTENSE attachment, likely accompanied by half a dozen rewatches of the entire series)have passed and most of the time you don't even know you've reached it because most shows don't slow down like that. I, myself, only know of a few cases for me, but I do know the first time I noticed it was with HIMYM. Back in... season 6, I think it was, when I realized that I did not care if the show was funny anymore (though it still was then; season 7 was when the humor went downhill). Or if there were any exciting plots; all I wanted was to see the characters interact. So yeah. I loved seasons 7 and 8. And 9 too, but slightly less.
Do people really not like them?
Although I will admit that my opinion would probably be slightly different if I had watched the last few seasons when they aired.
And also, I just... I really love the characters on this show. Especially the ladies. I love the ladies a lot. All of them.
And the issues. THE ISSUES! I mean, it's a little unrealistic that they're all sandwiched between ten or so characters (idek who to count as the main cast) and happen so close together even when you count the timeskips and once they're over they're rarely brought up again unless the characters have PTSD or depression or identity crisis after that (someone almost died twice in a chronological year during the high school years; can't remember who, but if it were me, I'd have paranoia and fear and nightmares for months. heck, it's been over two years since my apartment was broken into and I STILL jump at every noise when I go to bed in the middle of the night), but, while they're happening, I think they're handled gracefully and fairly realistically (though I'm not an expert by any means) and it's just a great resource for people who are struggling with all kinds of bad shit and need someone to identify with or get inspired by, even if it is a fictional character.
All in all, his is one of the greatest and most consistently good shows I've ever seen and I'm so glad I've finally seen all of it.
I recommend it a lot. To everyone.

and I started crying like it's nobody's business
because
the finale is so perfect and closes up everything in such a brilliant way and is just amazing in every way
but then the score starts and MattandDanny being mushy with each other and Matt goes to his office and stares at his clock with this kind of affectionate and wistful expression
because this is the clock that has tormented him for nine months
and he can finally look at it with a smile and admit that this is his home and he belongs here, and the clock is a part of that, even if he may not like it
and he mutters to himself "I'm gonna make a friend out of you yet" with this look in his eyes that practically screams 'there are so many adventures I'm gonna go on. I can't wait for the rest of my life to start' and it's just so hopeful and optimistic because after all the shit he's been through things are finally looking up, not just for him, but for everyone, and it's gonna be a new day and a new world and for a moment, just a moment, you as the viewer have this great anticipation for all the amazing things that are going to follow, all the epicness still ahead
and then he grins and the screen fades to black and you realize that no, you won't get to see it. you won't get to see any of it. and even though everything was perfect and closure was had, there could have been so much more. if only people weren't idiots. we could've had so much. WE COULD HAVE HAD IT AAAAAAAAAAALL.

I have a habit of saying that The Class is the cancellation that will always hurt the most. And that is true. I don't think anything else will ever hurt me as much. But the promise of all that Studio 60 could have been and could have achieved if it had been given the chance... all that it already did and was and achieved with barely a chance given... it's fucking amazing and admirable and...
DAMMIT DAMMIT DAMMIT CAN I JUST MOVE TO A PARALLEL UNIVERSE WHERE STUDIO 60 HAD AT LEAST THREE SEASONS? Not Fringe's redverse, because there The West Wing had at least 11 seasons (still airing in 2010) and while I don't know whether in redverse Sorkin also departed from the show after season 4, but I'm pretty sure that if Bradley Whitford was still cast as Josh Lyman, he wouldn't been fired or departed from the show after seven seasons and thus wouldn't have had the chance to work on Studio 60 and Studio 60 without Bradley Whitford is unimaginable.
speaking of which, I can't get over the moment when Jordan asks Danny whether he wants to be Rebecca's father and he's just so overwhelmed with emotion that he's speechless for a good while and then all he can stammer out is "I need a pen". I just. ALL THE DANNY/JORDAN FEELS.
never gonna get over this show. never ever ever ever.
and one thing I hadn't noticed before is how Mary says to Matt "you know what I'm talking about" and he goes "no. no I don't, I swear to God I don't" and then when she explains, he's telling Danny the same thing like half an hour later and saying "you know what I'm talking about" and Danny also goes "no. no, I don't, I swear to God I don't". it's literally the most epic friendship and bond I've ever seen on TV. AND IT HURTS SO MUCH.
my life's ambition is to have like half the common sense and intelligence of the people on this show. they're just. so. perfect. and stupid at the same time. I can't. and Jordan's such a wonderful character, because lord knows she's got a lot of flaws, but the narrative's never punishing her for them. she makes a mistake, she deals with the consequences, she moves on. that's it. she's not the greatest driver. she has trouble remembering people's names after meeting them once. she married a douchebag when she was young. she had an abortion. she dated at least another jackass. AND NONE OF THOSE THINGS MAKE HER ANY LESS OF A PERSON WORTHY OF RESPECT AND POWER.
I just love this show so much and I have no idea what to do. because it hurts so much and it's never gonna stop hurting. and I've only gotten like three people to watch it in all the years I've been lobbying it.

As you may have guessed from the spam earlier, I finished Two of a Kind today (and started another Olsen Twins show, So Little Time). I just... How was this show canceled. WHY. It was genuinely funny and heartfelt and funny and quirky and funny and nice and sweet and funny. Like, I don't even know what my favorite part of it was - the amazing character of Carrie, the twins' chemistry with each other, Kevin's sarcasm and cynicism, his personality clashing with Carrie's, that being a good thing, those awesome quiet sweet moments when they take a break from taking joking jabs at each other and express actual human emotions... the random appearances of Paul, the twins' relationship with Carrie, with their dad, etc.
But let's go back a bit to the ship of Carrie and Kevin. I SHIP IT SO MUCH. I mean, after she said the thing about the lab being too early in the pilot, almost the very first thing he said to her was "you know, every year I have one student that I know I'll remember for the rest of my life. This year I have a feeling it's gonna be you." and the show's finale ended with them kissing (sorta). I mean... talk about awesome lines. I seriously really really ship it. I had forgotten I did. But I think it may have been one of my first otp's ever. I think I must have been about seven or eight when it started airing here, which puts it after Maron/Chiaki, Momoko/Yousuke, Ranma/Akane and possibly Usagi/Mamoru, but before Takeru/Kari, Doremi/Kotake and that brunette girl and blond guy from Yu-Gi-Oh! (or whoever was canon, because I distinctly remember my ship from Yu-Gi-Oh! becoming canon), and somewhere around the same time of Jesse/Rebecca, Dana/Richie and, now that my memory's refreshed a bit about So Little Time, maybe also Riley/Larrie? (Step by Step, Full House and Two of a Kind (and occasionally/gradually some other shows like According to Jim and Reba) were always shown at 8:30 every weeknight after the news, and they took turns, always in rotation; I'm pretty sure Full House's entire run was repeated at least five times during my childhood.) Anyway, I remember that I shipped them and boy do I now too. And I'm really sad that we never got to see Carrie and Kevin develop that romantic relationship, but at least it was sorta canon with that one kiss. And I choose to believe what I chose to believe the other time a show I really loved was prematurely canceled before it could get my otp truly together but ended with one party realizing their feelings (hint: it was The Class, Kat/Ethan and I still feel like screaming FUCK YOU to the world about the last moments of their relationship ever shown), which is - they eventually got together offscreen, we just didn't have the privilege to see it, but they lived happily after, got married and are raising a couple of kids to be as quirky as their moms and as sensible as their dads (wow that sure is a lot of similarities between the ships) and basically everything is sunshine and rainbows because the one good thing about cancellations is NOBODY ELSE'S HEADCANONS ABOUT WHAT CAME AFTER ARE ANY MORE CORRECT THAN MINE.
