"The N.Y.P.D. has identified the body of the bomber."
"The first sighting of a hero in six months." "The only civilian death in today's attack was a fifty-seven year old male." "Is it true that there's another Superhero out there?" "Any chance today's attack has anything to do with the recent attacks in Italy, Austria and Germany?" The radio waves were back noise as she read The Great Gatsby and sucked on a grape flavoured lollipop. She laid on the white rug closes to the front door while Daisy Buchanan crashed Gatsby's car and reporters outside the novel talked of Al-Qaeda. (Honestly it was as if there weren't any other terror groups in the world.) She kept the radios on in hope of hearing more about the situation in Italy, Austria and Germany; Though what she learned was filtered. She laid down her book and stood up. Waiting for her ten feet away was a black duffel bag. When she un-zipped the bag the eyes of dead presidents stared at her. In total she had earned the amount a Government agent received in half a year for today's assistance; One of the two upsides to the whole affair. The other one was the fact that she'd received a chance to save a lot of people; Which came with a down side. The C.I.A. (and the whole federal alphabet) knew how to get her to work. And that way was to tell her that the number of deaths. She had only worked with the C.I.A. once before this time, when there was an attack on the White House that needn't be spoken of to the general population (Which was also how she ended up on the C.I.A.'s radar, as well as S.H.I.E.L.D.'s) and refused to help since then. She didn't want them to think she was some sort of pet they could just call upon when they needed her. Yet, when Agent Robertson of the C.I.A. knocked on her door (for the sixteenth time) and told her that the death toll was estimated to be higher than initially thought, she agreed to work for them. Though she tried to pretend like it was for the money, everyone knew better. It would never be for the money. She had let the innocent die before and didn't want it to happen again. A loud knock on her door startled her out of her thoughts and into real life. She stood still her hand hovering over her bag of cash until a second knock and she reached under the counter where a Glock 23 waited for her. She shoved it in the waist line of her shorts, in the back where she could pull her shirt over it, and pulled the white T-shirt in question over the gun. Before she could think of her next move there was another knock, one of someone growing impatient. Silently, she tip toed across her floor and towards the door. She looked through the peak hole, saw who it was and took a step back. Instinctively her hand flew to the chain and grabbed it. She rolled it between her forefinger and her thumb for a second before pulling it back, clicking the bolt and throwing open the door. "May I come in." "Something, deep in my soul, tells me you'll come in whether I want you to or not." She said and stepped back for him to walk past her. He carried a silver brief case in his right hand and in his left a gun she could not identify. Tentatively, she closed the door and turned towards him. "I suppose you're here about today's events?" She asked as she picked her book off of the floor, before it was completely forgotten. "No, actually. I'm not. We have our own emergencies to deal with." He looked out the window and into the skyline outside. Though she'd never admit it to anyone other than the love of her life, it was a really pretty view. The lights of the city twinkled; Stark tower shone in blue lighting, recently re-opened after last years mis-haps; Reporters filled block after block and ambulances rushed through the streets. "Well. Can I help you Director Fury?" She asked sharply; He snapped around and looked her in the eye. "I'm here to talk to you about the Avengers Initiative." "No." She walked over to her book case and put Gatsby in it's proper place. "We're not yet positive who we're dealing with right now. They've been attacking military bases across the globe and disappearing before anyone can tail them." "You wouldn't be here if you didn't have a hunch. Tell me who you think it is and I'll consider considering it." She began running her fingers along the spines of her books, reading the titles as she went. She didn't want to turn around and face Fury. His lack of eye creeped her out. "Hydra." Her fingers froze mid-motion. He took her moment of hesitation and used it against her. "You are one of the few people alive to this day who possess direct connections to Hydra. Your physical abilities and advanced knowledge in Neuroscience can help us. In the past we've left you alone, but now it is time to step up." "If you chose to accept," she could hear him un-lock the brief case he carried in with him. "the files on Hydra are yours to view. All of them." It was her turn to snap around. His eye found hers and she could see the confidence in it. "Fine." "I will see you soon." Nick Fury nodded at her and left her apartment. Just like that. The second the door clicked shut she launched forward towards the silver brief case he had left on her bed. She removed the Glock from her waist band, crawled into the middle of her Queen sized bed and opened the case. The only thing inside the case was a tablet that took up the bottom. She pulled it out and held it up to the light. It was transparent. She could see everything just as it had been when it was down. Lightly, oh so lightly, she touched the screen. The tablet came to life in her hand and she clicked the only file available at the time. The Avengers Initiative. The only thing that came up was a list of six people. She recognized all the names and recognized all the people, only an, obviously, outdated photo of Steve Rogers threw her off. At the very bottom of the list, Raighne Buchanan glared at the camera. Her white blonde hair fell down in front of her shoulders, her eyes of every colour and no colour at all practically shot daggers at the camera, and her ashen skin looked flushed.
Her pale, un-painted fingers tapped the screen once more.
Confirmed.
