MARGARET GETS VERTIGO: HITCHCOCK'S EAST END
For the duration of this year and well into next, our fine friends at east London charity arts organisation, Create London, will be inviting local Londoners to pay homage to one of Britain’s most influential and pioneering filmmakers, Alfred Hitchcock. Hitchcock’s East End will present a series of events and screenings of his iconic films around Waltham Forrest (the master of suspense’s birthplace), not only in new and interesting contexts, but also in the area of London that inspired many of his films.
The first event is a screening of Vertigo, which will take place on 28 September at St Margaret's church, Leytonstone. Each ticket includes a walk around Hitchcock’s birthplace and the streets where he grew up, starting at Leytonstone Underground station from 5pm. Create London have allocated a selection of tickets for local residents: they’re urging people to book sooner rather than later as these special seats are strictly limited and will be released for sale shortly. The project forms part of a larger programme of events leading towards the opening of Waltham Forest’s first cinema in 10 years, the Empire. This in turn, forms part of a major regeneration project, The Scene at Cleveland Place, a new leisure destination that is sure to provide all the adventure and glamour of a Hitchcockian thriller.
