Incidents of anti-Asian discrimination, harassment, and violence have been on the rise since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020. More recently, assaults against Asians in San Francisco, Oakland, and New York, as well as in communities across the country, have escalated, resulting in severe injury and death. These events are not isolated incidents but represent an alarming surge of anti-Asian sentiment, the results of scapegoating and the racist and xenophobic rhetoric in politics and media. The collective health and safety of our diverse communities of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders are at risk when ignorance, misheld beliefs, hate, and violence are perpetuated. As the “model minority,” we will no longer remain quiet! We entreat you to join us in the campaign to raise awareness of anti-AAPI discrimination and hate.
