boston creative coders, april 2013 recap
A new format last night for boston creative coders: we did a show and tell presentation style. It worked out pretty well, with a range of projects shared, from various stages of development.
Adam Ribaudo and I presented a piece we built with New American Public Art called MIMIC, sampling a single pixel and lighting RGB LEDs on a canvas with that color.
Sands Fish presented an idea to laser cut curtains with a pattern representing pulsar data. Data visualization to home furnishing!
Dewb presented a few projects he has been working on lately with the Burning Man and Firefly community. There are quite a few builders who seek a collaboration with him based on his software expertise. There was a simulation for a pendulum project that was built for last summer's Figment festival.
WebGL was used because it was the easiest way to share the simulation with all of the project collaborators.
Dewb also spoke of a multi-projection piece in a half shell, sort of planetarium style, called Radome. An artist can create pieces for Radome that are both audio and visual.

Matthew Shanley spoke of the process building Listener with New American Public Art, and preparing it for the three months of our freezing Boston winter. Listener takes in sound and lights up LEDs.

Finally, Morgan Packard and Nick Donaldson presented their audio framework. You had to be there to see exactly what it was (still in stealth mode, pre-release), but basically it allows you to easily and efficiently code synths and patterns in c++, compatible with openFrameworks and iOS. Really, the most exciting part was seeing/hearing the demos. Next month there will be a workshop to start playing with it before release. Stay tuned for details.
Next month's creative coders will be during the Together Festival, a week long art, tech, and electronic music festival around Boston. Yes, all those at once. We're working with them right now on the details.
Thanks to Velir for hosting the April meetup.
