8 9 10 for What Scares Her The Most
8: Did any real people or events inspire any part of it? Sort of? I see a lot of my older sister in Harper, greanted minus the alternative style that Harper likes. The idea of giving up your childhood for someone else to have theirs is something that hits close to home for me and it’s easy to see that in Harper Row
9: Were there any alternate versions of this fic? In the original version of this story, Harper and Jason were going to be sparring for a while and she wasn’t going to get burried alive. Instead of facing her fears, Jason was going to try and teach her about fighting, body conditioning and perception
10: Why did you choose this pairing for this particular story? It is absolutely no secret that I see Harper and Jason as two sides of the same coin.
Okay, so with both of them, you got the little uppity punk from crime alley, right? Both of them show up at a hard time in Bruce’s life (Jason was on the anniversary of his parents death, Harper (although she’d hung around before) made a monument to Damian with the Gotham skylight).
They both have lost their moms and both their dads are criminal deadbeats. There’re a lot of parallels to draw from in regards to their characters and I really wanted to address them in this story by showing that Harper is really scared of becoming Jason because she knows his story and she knows how close she is to becoming another Red Hood.
But I also wanted to address the idea that Jason doesn’t like what he is, even if he recognizes it as a necessity, and the only way to make sure they can move forward is if he took her and pushed her to the breaking point and then, and only then, could HARPER be satisfied with the knowledge of her not turning into an early Red Hood.
