Why Star Wars Should Establish A Multiverse
Kathleen Kennedy’s contract with Lucasfilm is ending in October of 2021. By that time, the Star Wars community will either be a husk of its former self, or be nonexistent entirely. Either way, the only way for Star Wars as a franchise to go forward is to establish a multiverse, thus making MUCH more room for all outlets of creativity. Here’s why a multiverse is the way to go:
Retconning The Sequel Trilogy - To say that the Star Wars Sequel Trilogy was a mess would be a gross understatement. While most, if not all of the Star Wars community, want the Sequel Trilogy retconned to make room for more creative storytelling, the fact is there IS a fan base for the Sequels, no matter how bad they are, & for them to be retconned would be alienating fans.
Making The Old Republic A Reality - The Old Republic era of Star Wars is a unique opportunity to bring in the community back together. With its story, characters, locations, & starships, to bring The Old Republic to life is a step in the right direction to generate consumer goodwill.
Passing The Torch - Whoever ends up taking Kennedy’s place is going to have their work cut out for them. So, it would make sense to “wipe the slate clean” by establishing a multiverse, & starting from the ground up. Lucas passed the torch to Kennedy, and she’ll end up passing the torch to whoever wants it. (Here’s hoping Dave Filoni or Jon Favreau get it).
Logic of A Multiverse - Multiverses are like mismatch books, where you take a section from one page, & combine it with 2 other sections from 2 different pages. This would be an ideal way of preventing what has been introduced to Star Wars to be thrown to the wayside. Regardless of how lousy the Sequel Trilogy is, there are diamonds to be found in the rough. (Example: Poe Dameron as a member of the Old Republic fleet, who decides to join the Eternal Alliance: Sequel + Old).
In closing, a multiverse is an ideal way for Star Wars to be brought back to its former glory. Not only will ALL fans be satisfied, but Star Wars will be given the proper makeover it should have gotten since day 1 of being owned by Disney.
There’s always hope, if you’re willing to believe.
