CREATIVE SEQUENCE
To pursue further in the future of design as becoming a designer, I intend to develop and plan something that defines the connection of social and multi-cultural engagement. The ability to acknowledge other cultural aspects and to raise awareness of the many different backgrounds that call Melbourne, or to speak widely, Australia ‘home.’ Primarily focusing towards the Asian cultural community as numbers have risen over the past years. Whether it would be for work, study, future aspirations, environment living or family support, the ethnic groups in Asia have encountered the Australian way of living as a multi-cultural island. It is said that Australia’s diverse migrant communities have brought them over with lifestyle, food, and cultural practices, as this has been captivated into the Australian mainstream culture. Reasoning with a large depth of culture and being able to reduce that significant value into a minimal focus is what I will determine as this creative sequence.
I would like to take the opportunity of creating a passport-like booklet that engages its users of the Asian cultural languages that have come apart of the multi-cultural language of Australia. The fairly small publication booklet/s will act like a dictionary crossed with a passport. Informative themes such as language, lifestyle and food will feature as its main components. Strong typography and infographics will set the base of the publication style along with icons, maps and statistics. Under the aesthetic of minimalism and its simple design nature, I shall incorporate a bold statement that asian culture in mainstream environment is worth noticing of. Clear visuals with minimal colour will provide the audience of progressive details and experience contained within the booklet. The designed work that will be produced is to also inform the target audience, take notice of their surroundings and may have a clear sense of the Asian culture.
Going forward with this certain design style, the movement from minimal multidisciplinary design infused to a driven cultural language theme can have possible mixtures of creative design outcomes. Introducing a really broad theme like asian culture, and performing it in a way of a simple manner is to elevate the design of minimalism. As like changing up something from a large scale, into portraying it as a minimal and concise version. To develop the understanding, and challenge how an open context can interact and shift within a much smaller space of design work. Keeping all the fundamentals, and expressing the three - five asian countries and its culture to a much softer and clear tone. To concentrate the key idea of conveying the message, should give the audience the certainty and possibility of engaging with the culture and its people, or understanding the basics of their language.
Dedicated to university / international students, cultural groups, designers, creatives and the community - of introducing the basic understanding of asian cultural language to mainstream environment. As taking part in this course, I have come across many Asian ethnicity design students at the city campus, being international students or local students of having an asian cultural background, just as myself. Not just communication design but it varies a lot throughout the courses offered.
Offering this type of cultural background to express and differentiate its uniqueness and manner, will provide the audience of a mix of cultures becoming as one. It could possibly present learning and recognizing the language as an attempt to understand the several Asian groups within the general public. Understanding the concept, the audience will be presented with fine infographic forms, language engagement, and setting up minor activities for enjoyment. Creating this type of creative sequence, I would like to include some of my heritage, plus others into the design that requires experience and travel.
