I’ve mentioned this briefly before, but Deryn has a boyfriend back in New York they never really broke up with (I haven’t decided on any details yet, he’s not involved with the story so he’s on pretty low priority). After Deryn’s creator was murdered things got pretty crazy for a while, and they didn’t really have the time or opportunity to talk to him. The few times they did have the chance, they chose not to. They thought he would be safer and better off without them. After they left the country, they just slowly forgot about him.
