Toning

For this exercise we had to show that we understood Toning either within the Dark Room or Photoshop.

I chose to portray this in Photoshop as I do feel comfortable using the computer but this was something I had never done before.

To begin, I created a new adjustment layer. I then selected ‘Hue/Saturation’ and chose the option to ‘Colourize’. 

This gives you the option to adjust the hue and saturation to the point where there is no colour present. It also allows you to the lower the saturation to the point where colour can be slightly seen. This is what I did and incorporated a slight purple tinge.

Multiple Images - 26/03/2018

Today, in Creative Image Making class we discussed a different variety of ways of multiple image making, for example, double exposures, multiple exposures or collages etc. We had a look at several examples of the techniques from images found on Pinterest.

We were then put into groups of three or four. My group included @carancb1photography @samanthalambnc1bphotography @kirstin-nc1b-photography .

We decided on a technique we wanted to attempt ourselves, we chose the multiple exposures example. Cara and Kirstin were our photographers and they took several images of landscapes in a row. Once we went back to class Cara then managed to create the multiple exposure by adding 5 or so images to layers in Photoshop and then she adjusted the Opacity for each one which helped to fade the other images into the forefront image.

Filters

This project worked really well, especially because of the good weather on the day of the shoot. 

I used acryllic filters that were bought from Amazon. There were multiple colours that allowed me to have a selection and wider choice. 

The image above is my final and something I am very proud of as the sky was a light almost white colour. However, by using the blue filter on the sky I have given the illusion of the sky being blue.

'My Grandfather's Perspective' Double exposure

Distortion

Distortion was a lot simpler than I originally thought. 

I used YouTube tutorials in order to teach myself how to do this on Photoshop.

I selected the ‘Liquify’ tool from the filter tab at top of the page which then took me to a separate page that allowed me to distort the face as much as I wanted.

Creative Use of Shutter Speed

This shot was from a gig that I was asked to shoot by a band in my local area. The lighting was very tricky as the venue was so dark but by using a slow shutter speed I was able to allow more light into my camera and lens. 

By using the slow shutter speed I was able to capture the blur and movement that was needed for the project. This has worked well as the colours can also be seen lying on the subject as a silhouette around him which draws the viewer’s attention into the image.

Zoom

This was a part of the course that I really enjoyed and had already investigated within my own Photography. 

To achieve this final shot I used a zoom lens and projector.

I asked my model to sit on the floor in front of a plain white wall and adjusted the projector so that the distorted image was lying on his face. I then took the photograph and adjusted the zoom either in or out in order to capture the illusion of movement that I have portrayed in the photograph above.

Double Exposure

This part of the course was something I found rather difficult. There is a lot to it and the steps used are very important, you miss one and you won’t get the result you are wanting.

I am very happy with the end result as it is exactly what I was looking to achieve. The model can still be clearly seen even with the forest inserted into the frame. This is due to the fact that I adjusted my Opacity settings to the point where both can be seen.
