I shot #CreativeNC about 2 years ago. I started with a camera I barely could operate. I had no mic's. No lighting. Nothing. @twittytony came along and blessed me with his expertise so I could focus on directing. We had the goal of painting a picture of North Carolina's creative culture. It grew into a project that addresses what a creative is, beyond a buzzword. We also took on whether or not society and the education system stifles creatively in a country so focused on industrialized principles. I could've screened the film right away, but I felt it deserved the same love at higher institutions, as work from people from different cultures and socioeconomic advantage. @dave_haswingz and I set out to debut the film in a museum. We we're turned down, or caught up in silly politics everywhere we went for a year. The @ncmuseumhistory opened it's doors to us, and our idea to hold panels and keynotes geared toward teaching attendees how to build creative industry. Last weekend it all came to fruition. I showed you all my work and opened myself to the possibility of criticism from complete strangers. It's nerve wrecking to give people the chance to pick your art apart. I was told my film changed lives, inspired, and educated. That's all I ever wanted. All eyes on me. Next time I'll pack the theatre wit it. | 📸 @deryledanielsjr (at North Carolina Museum of History)
