Current Livelihood: BBDO Worldwide in New York City, NY
Which skills do you believe students should have right out of college that will help them succeed in the industry?
To listen, process, and then respond. In an industry that is so fast paced, you’re asked to perform quickly. But it’s very easy to make mistakes if you react too fast. Take your time, do it well the first time.
What are you doing as a Junior Art Director for BBDO?
Working on SNICKERS, GE, and FedEx.
Why do you love what you do?
Everyday is different. One day you’re advertising these little chocolate bars, and the next day you’re showcasing these huge turbines that literally power the world.
What are the most rewarding parts of your job/ What do you like most about your job?
Getting an idea approved from the client. As crazy and as cool as your ideas can be, at the end of the day you still have to sell it and convince people, “this is cool, this is funky, this will make people laugh or take a second look, you want to spend those thousands of dollars to make this real.”
What is your favorite part about living in the Big Apple?
You can find it all. Good food, good people, good vibes.
How did your education at UT impact your life and career?
UT offers a great sense of pride as a school and a community, and I loved that. When you take pride in your school and pride in your work, you are motivated to be great and that just ripples across everything else you do.
Is there any advice you have for students currently in the Moody College of Communication?
Yes. Do good work, be aggressive, and work hard. But be nice. The contacts you make in school are just as valuable as your degree.
Are there any teachers or mentors you had during your time at UT that you have a message for that we can pass along?
Yes, shout out to Dr. Brad Love, Maria Rivera, and Sean Thompson. All great, genuine, people.
What is your ultimate career goal?
Ask me again in two weeks and my answer will be different. The truth is, I don’t know yet and I’m okay with that.
