Cyborg Unicorns pt 19

“So,” Jesse sat next to his sister at the table, fingers laces with his chin resting on them, “How long have you known each other?” He waggled his eyebrows.”

His sister, Sadie, rolled her eyes. “Boy, have you guys got yourselves into it.”

Kellar smiled. “It’s okay, we don’t mind, right, Olivia?”

I nodded.

“So, how long?” Jesse asked again.

“Well, for a long time really, but we started... hanging out in December.” Kellar answered. His face turned a bit red and I kissed him on the cheek.

“Ah,” Jesse grinned, “Y’all been secretly in love this whole time but now that you’re lovers nothing can stop you.”

Kellar kissed me on the nose, “Exactly.”

“So when’s the wedding?” Jesse resembled a pup waiting for it’s treat.

My cheeks burned red and I hid my face behind Kellar’s shoulder.

“Ooohh,” Sadie rolled a pencil between her fingers. She leaned over the table towards me, “Okay so I know that I just met you and that I’m 15, but can I be the flower girl?”

“Yes!” Jesse exclaimed, jumping up, “And I’ll be the ring bearer!”

Kellar smiled, “That sounds perfect.”

Sadie nodded and said, “Cool,” before leaving the room.”

“I gotta go tell Mom!” Jesse raced across the room and out the patio door.

I moved around in my seat to see Kellar better. “You want to get married?” I asked him. I wanted him to say yes, but maybe I only wanted that because I had never had anyone care for me the way Kellar had.

“Well, yeah.” Kellar said. He grabbed my hand. “You do, ah, like me, right?”

“Yes, it’s just that... Are you sure that I’m someone that you really want to be dragging around the rest of your life?” I tried to hide the embarrassment in my face.

Kellar looked at me with determination. “I won’t be dragging you around, Olivia. I’ll be holding you in my arms every day. It’ll be waking up next to you and watching you try to fit in another chapter of before you fall sleep. It’ll be picnics after church and having food fights. It’ll be breakfast dates and laughter... and, and, kissing in the rain.”

Cyborg Unicorns pt 18

“So, one week. Where do you want to start, Olivia?” Kellar asked as we waited in the street for a taxi. The sun dried our skin and clothes, and I didn’t even care that we were soaking wet.

“I have no idea. What do you usually do when you’re not with me?” I laughed and wrung my hair out.

“Nothing really. Study. Spend the day at the library... But hey...I’ve got a great idea!” Kellar grinned and pushed up his water splashed glasses. “My cousin invited me to their family cook out they have every summer. I told him I couldn’t go, but now that our schedule is free we totally should!”

“Uh, are you sure, Kellar? I know you don’t like big groups. I don’t want you to do this for me.” I squeezed his arm. “You don’t need to worry about making anything up to me.”

“Are you kidding? My family is totally different. You’ll get to see a side of me you haven’t seen yet, appealing, huh? Yeah, I know it is. Anyway, my mom’s probably told them about you and they’re pretty cool!” Kellar squeezed my arm back. He looked so happy.

“Okay, I’d love to go.”

The taxi arrived and we decided to pack another bag and stay with Kellar’s family for a few days.

As Kellar pulled my big green van into the driveway I didn’t find myself so nervous. I knew this was going to be a great week.

“Ready?” Kellar asked as we got out of the van. He grabbed my hand and knocked on the door.

I smiled at him as a boy opened the door. He was small but his smiled made up for that. “Kellar!” He screeched. “What are you doing here!? Mom told me you were going on vacation.”

“Well,” Kellar chuckled, “We missed our ride.” He winked at me.

The boy made a strange noise. “Oooh, Kellar is this your girlfriend, Olivia?”

Kellar smiled, “Yes, this is my girlfriend, Olivia.”

The boy stuck his hand out, “I’m Jesse, I’m 12.”

I shook his hand. “Nice to meet you, Jesse.”

Jesse led us in to the kitchen to meet his mom.

She hugged Kellar and me like she knew me. “Welcome to the family, Olivia. I’m Samantha.”

I smiled. I wanted to say that I wasn’t part of their family... but I already felt like i was.

I realize it’s been a while...

Hello! Cat here! I haven’t done any writing on tips and tricks... for, ah a while . >.<

Cyborg Unicorns pt 16 1/2

I looked out the window as I put my hair up. I put a few pins in to secure the stray strands. It was getting so warm, getting hot, and I was glad. The  warmer it got, the further away I could be from that night the last year.

I heard the door open behind me and wasn’t surprised to hear Kellar’s voice.

“Hey!” He grinned. I turned around to greet him and let him kiss my head.

“How’s it going? Why the surprise visit?” I asked as I sat down and slipped on my shoes.

“Wellllll...” He held put his hands in his pockets and rocked back and forth on his heels.

“Well what? Is something wrong?” I lifted my eyebrows and sat up.

Kellar laughed and shook his head, leaving his glasses to fall down his nose. “This is really embarrassing, okay, but I’m going on this vacation with my parents next week, and my dad suggested that you come along, imagine that, I mean he really likes you, anyway, then my mom, well, she spur of the moment invited your parents, so it looks like we’re all going on vacation together.”

I snorted. “You’re kidding! Oh my gosh that’s great!” I bend over with laughter.

Kellar rolled his eyes and sat next to me. “I wasn’t sure if you’d be mad or not.”

I looked up at him. “If you’re going to be there, there is totally no way I could be mad.” I rubbed my eyes. I tried to be serious but I laughed again.”Where are we going?”

Kellar looked at me with a straight face. “On a cruise ship to Norway.” It was only a split second before he gave up trying to hold it together.

My sides hurt from laughing so much but I couldn’t stop. Then Ashley walked in  with a disgusted face that made us laugh even more.

I collapsed back on my bed and my laughter turned to giggles when Kellar flopped down next to me. “Oh,” he said, “I meant to tell you that you look really cute today.”

I put my hand on his cheek. “You are amazing”

Cyborg Unicorns pt 15

I sat my phone down and prayed for Kellar. In a way, I was upset for him keeping this from me, but I could also understand how he felt.

I laid down and rubbed my face, thinking about how things would be if Jacob had never died, and even if Emmit had never... died. I always thought what I would choose to do if I had the chance to save Emmit. I bet Kellar thought that way too.

I jumped up as someone knocked at the door. “Who is it?” I called.

“Kellar.”

I let out a breath of relief and got up to unlock the door. I opened it and gently smiled up at him. “I’m really sorry, Kellar.”

Before I could say anything else, Kellar swooped down and wrapped his arms tightly around me, tucking his head against mine. I didn’t know if I should have said anything. So I didn’t. I was perfectly content being held by Kellar.

He finally get go of my and held my hands. “My mom called you didn’t she?” He whispered.

I shook my head. “I wish you would have told me. I can understand this stuff.”

“Yeah. I know.”

We sat on my bed. “So, is there something you usually do on his birthday?” I asked.

“Not really.”

“Well,” I said, “do you want to do something today?” I swallowed, “Like, my dad always buys a rose one his mom’s birthday and takes it to his sister, and they spend the day together.”

Kellar crossed his legs and shook his head. “No... I just want to appreciate you. You’re amazing, and I don’t deserve you, and I’m sorry I didn’t reach out to you until I did.”

My face fell and I started crying immediately. He didn’t deserve me? I didn’t deserve him. He was probably the most perfect person on the face of the earth. He lost his temper, but he apologized. He was thoughtful and fun. He had a beautiful soul.

“Olivia?” Kellar put his hands on my shoulders. “What’s wrong.”

I smiled at him through my tears. “Nothing... I’m just...completely and perfectly and incandescently happy.” I kissed his cheek.

Kellar smiled bigger than I had seem him before. “Me too.”

I laid my head on his shoulder. “No more secrets?” I asked.

“No more secrets.”

Cyborg Unicorns pt 12

“So are you and Kellar going to the campus New Year’s Eve party later?” My mom asked me over the phone.

I glanced over my shoulder at Ashley, who for once, was actually in our room. She was no doubt listening to my half of the conversation, waiting for something to hang me up on. “Yeah, we decided not to. It will probably get way out of hand. I probably wouldn’t mind going for a little while if...If Emmit were going. But, ah, yeah... Kellar isn’t fond of big parties and whatever, and there’s no one there I’m interested in hanging with.”

“You can always come over here,” Mom offered.

“Yeah, I know. But I think Kellar has something in mind, so I’ll check with him.”

“Hey, hon...”

“Yeah?” I answered.

“I’m really happy for you, Olivia.”

I smiled. “I know mom. I love you.”

“I love you too.”

 I hung up and stuck my phone in my pocket. I began to gather up my things before Kellar came to pick me up.

 Ashley put down her notebook. “So, you and Book Worm aren’t going to the party? That’s lame. But I guess there are other...ah, things to do.” She looked at me with an idiotic smile.

“Wow, Ashley,” I pretended to be embarrassed. She looked at me mischievously until I continued, “I didn’t know you were still 12 years old.” I smiled bitterly and answered the knock on the door.

“Ready?” Kellar asked, hands in his coat pockets and his glasses sliding down his nose.

“Yep!” I put my coat on and slipped my bag over my shoulders. I joined Kellar in the hallway and we began to walk after he took my hand. “So, what were you wanting to do?” I asked.

Kellar smiled. “Something a little odd for college students to do on New Year’s Eve.”

I raised my eyebrows at him “What?”

We kept walking for a few minutes, and Kellar didn’t answer me.I pulled my scarf over my nose. “Here, this is where I wanted to go.” Kellar said. We stopped in front of a church.

“Um, why?” I asked. “I hope we’re not getting married, I have spaghetti to eat later.”

Kellar rolled his eyes and smiled gently. “I know you haven’t been to church since your brother died, don’t you think it’s time?” He asked.

I closed my eyes for a moment. I wanted to be mad, but I couldn’t becasue I knew it was true. I laid my head on Kellar’s arm. “Yeah. It is time.”

I needed to stop sheltering myself from God.

Cyborg Unicorns pt 11

“Able! This is Olivia,” Mrs. Hodges introduced me to her husband.

Mr. Hodges shook my hand. “Nice to meet you young lady, we’re glad to have you with us.”

“Thank you, Mr. Hodges, it’s good to be here.” I smiled at him.

We all stood around in the kitchen for a few minutes, and even though I knew they were genuinely happy to have me, I could have sliced the tension with a knife. Because, of course, what do you say to someone who tried to commit suicide and lost their brother in one night?

“I know Kellar told you about our movies, but I forgot to make the peanut butter cookies. They’re Kellar’s favorite, can’t have a holiday without them,” Mrs. Hodges winked at me.

So, I helped Kellar and his mom make cookies. I caught Kellar looking at me, and I was used to it, but today it made me blush.

I started rolling balls of dough and setting them on the sheet. Kellar elbowed me. “The dough is almost always better than the cookie. You should try some, I promise you won’t get salmonella.”

I rolled my eyes, which I found myself doing a lot with this guy, and I popped a clump of dough in my mouth. It was good. I got a mischievous idea as I rolled another ball of dough. “It is good... But you should probably have some,” I grinned and smashed the dough onto his face.

“Oh...” Kellar gasped. “Oh-ho-ho.” He looked at me in a curious way and slowly walked toward me. I backed up against the wall and Kellar caught my wrists so I couldn't squirm away. He put his face real close to mine. I couldn’t stop giggling.

Kellar wiped the cookie dough from his cheek to mine, his fluffy hair ticking my face. He bent over and put his forehead to mine. “Olivia Mink, I am so in love with you.”

My face felt as red as a fire hydrant, but I didn’t say anything.

We put the cookies in to bake and sat in the living room to watch Home Alone. I snuggled up next Kellar and wrapped my arms around him. But I couldn’t think about the movie.

Becasue he said he loved me.

What a babe.
