Do you ever find yourself reading a fantasy book and then realizing that it's never actually explained what a particular fantasy species looks like? Like, there's just this understanding between you and the author that you probably know what a centaur or a dragon or a half-orc looks like. These things that don't actually exist are yet somehow common knowledge, like a dog or a lion.
I just find that fascinating! It's even more fascinating when you realize certain things aren't verified—like the fact JRR Tolkien never actually said that his elves have pointy ears. We all just sort-of assume that they do. (Well, all of us but Ralph Bakshi, I guess.)
