Hi, I'm Brian, and you have stumbled upon my neck of the Tumblr woods.

I love telling stories and making things.

I mostly make comics right now. I have three series: Brandy de Hex: Certified Sorceress, Polarnoids, and Libby Sk8er Girl. Libby and Polarnoids both release weekly on my website and here on Tumblr! Frustratingly, Brandy de Hex has basically been on hiatus for several years, as it's more effort to make and I keep having other things come up. My overall website is Starry Knight Studios.

I have no idea how to distill myself down into something simple and digestible for the internet, and I find the attempt distressing and stifling. Here are links to other things I do:

Mizuqua – The Backside of Water!

New OC Alert!!! I came up with Mizuqua specifically for this joke, but her name was something I actually came up with a while ago, being a combination of the Japanese word "mizu" [水] and the Latin word "aqua," both of which mean "water."

I think I'll simplify Mizuqua's design a little bit the next time I draw her. The translucent, multi-layered coloring and line work is both time-consuming and mind-bending 😵‍💫

Of the many reasons I love Luffy, a big one is the fact he'll be talking like a total badass and then turn into a total dork. He's great!

People want to give all sorts of convoluted reasons for why modern TV shows and movies are hard to hear. They'll talk about speaker placement on TVs, or mention something about acting techniques. Here is my hypothesis:

It's because they're mixing the audio for 5.1 surround sound (or 7.1 or whatever), but many people are watching TV with set-ups that only really have stereo. I have noticed this, because I have my dad's old stereo system from the '80s with my TV, and everything is really nice and works well, but my god, things can be so quiet sometimes. So quiet, that is, unless I change the audio setting in the set-up menu of a Blu-Ray or DVD from surround to stereo.

Suddenly, the dialogue is at the fore. I can hear what's happening. Stuff isn't all weirdly quiet and then absurdly loud. I'm not an audio engineer, but I suspect that whatever algorithms are used to automatically compress surround sound audio into two L/R stereo do not do a great job. Plus, a lot of streaming services don't give you the option to pick your audio setting, and they have no real idea what your set-up is. Thus, you get sound that seems crappy and poorly mixed, rather than something that has been carefully designed to sound good on your actual set-up.

Anyway, if you don't have surround sound, check to make sure your audio preferences are set to stereo. If you are smart and still use discs, they often (but not always) have options for this in the "Set Up" menu.

InsNe that dishwashers are more efficient and easier than just washing them manually but they also use less water. It’s a win win situation

They ALSO sterilize dishes, due to operating at a far higher temperature than human hands could ever tolerate. It's a win every way.

Made this post about 15 minutes after the repair guy who fixed the pump on my dishwasher packed up his tools and left, as the dishwasher was whirring along doing my dishes from that morning.

He said the exact same thing, which I did not know before that, so spreading this knowledge.

None of this is actually a problem—in fact, the jars being in my possession was becoming a bit of a problem for me—but I just thought I'd share.

Those directors who make their whole personality about using large format film make me really want to watch their movies exclusively in 360p on an old iPod Nano, just out of spite.
