when my cat died i was very hesitant to get another bc i didn't want to replace him, but that's really not what it is. you have so much love to give a new pet, and a new pet needs that love! try not to think of it as replacing, but as finding comfort & love with another creature that needs that as much as you do, when you're ready for it.

i think you’re very right - love is ultimately unbounded and self-renewing and the worst thing to do is cut urself off from it through perceived loyalty/loving commitment. thank you for this <3
