ᐊᑭᐦᑖᓱᓐ (akihtâson) - a number

ᐊᒋᒐᒧᔥ (acicamoš) - squirrel

ᐊᒋᒋᐸᐦᑖᐤ (acicipahtâw) - they run down headfirst like a squirrel going down a tree

ᐊᒐᐦᒄ (acahkʷ) - a star

ᐊᐦᒑᐦᒄ (ahcâhkʷ) - a soul, a spirit. [i just like how star and spirit are so similar:))]

In Cree one doesn’t refer to their mother’s sister as “auntie”. Instead we say “nikawîs.” which roughly translates to “like a mother” and I think that’s beautiful.

ᒋᑫᒪ (cikema) - of course 

ᒐᐦᑳᔥᑌᔑᓐ (cahkâštešin) - they cast a shadow

ᒑᑳᔅᑭᓱᐤ (câkâskisow) - they are consumed (by the fire)

ᒌᐹᔥ (cîpâš) - an ass/idiot

ᒌᐸᔾ (cîpay) - a ghost

thought these seemed a good mix of useful, poetic, and fun! :)

[the reason ᒋ rotates in these, the direction is based on the vowel sound following. if i did every rotation for each syllabic it would be a very long challenge!!]

In Cree we don’t say “horse”, we say “ᒥᐢᑕᑎᒼ (mistatim)” which literally means “big dog” and I think that’s beautiful.

In Cree, we don’t say “December” we say “pawācakinasīsi” which translates to “It's the time when the animals are scraping through the snow and the ice, clearing the snow off the trees” or basically “frost exploding trees”, and I think that’s much more fitting for Canadian winters.
