album ask! dookie
ca chance to talk about green day!?!? thank you <3333 the first song from this album I heard: basket case, like everyone else in the world ahahaha do I own the album?: i do! but the cd is at my parents’ house my favorite song: having a blast! it’s really underrated and it’s such a catchy song with some really compelling and surprisingly deep lyrics for an album called...well, dookie lmao my least favorite song: does all by myself count gtfrdfrd if not that, i think it’s honestly longview. it’s just VERY overplayed and a lot of the lyrics and themes of it get a little too much as i get older and too apparent this album was written by a bunch of twenty-something dudes (i say this endearingly, of course) a song I didn’t like at first, but now do: when i come around! i know i just gave longview shit for being overplayed, but i used to not like when i come around much for the same reason, but idk, this year alone i’ve bene listening to it a lot and it’s really been resonating in a new way a song I used to like, but now don’t: i used to prefer the welcome to paradise on here, but lately, i’ve been preferring the kerplunk! version. i think i like how the kerplunk! version is a little less polished and a little rougher? it has a little more character to it and nowadays, whenever i listen to the dookie version, i just wish it was the kerplunk one ahahaha my favorite lyric: “secrets collecting dust but never forget, skeletons come to life in my closet. i found out what it takes to be a man, now mom and dad will never understand. what’s happening to me?” sorry, this is long gtfgtfrdrtfd but this whole verse is just so good and really captures the heart of the song so well. i think it’s impossible not to, as a queer person, resonate with a song like coming clean. these lyrics are so simple, but they convey such a strong emotion and something that we’ve all been through, and i love the personal experience the song has for billie, too! overall rating out of 10: 8.5 out of 10! it’s interesting, because if you asked me five years ago, i probably would have given this a 9 or a 10. i still love it, but as i get older, it gets eclipsed by a lot of green day’s later albums and music (nimrod and warning, namely) for me send me an album and i’ll gush over it like the sap i am <3
