Cross x Elma: Yeah, yeah, I'm just in love with Elma but there's a certain poetry to Elma being a Reclaimer and falling in love with a piece of the White Whale she woke up. Someone who doesn't know or remember Elma the Hero, but just sees her for who she is, someone with whom she can build a relationship from the ground up the way it's meant to be. Someone she doesn't have to be the invincible hero around.
Hope x Murderess: The definition of "I can fix her" x "I can make her worse". Everyone is expecting some kind of con and is ready to kill Murderess at the first sign of her hurting Hope, but Murderess is unwilling to admit this stupid sunshine person actually wormed her way into her heart and it's driving her NUTS. And Hope latches onto Murderess after Ornella because Murderess is self-evidently selfish and won't pretend to be anyone else and if she hurts her it at least won't be a surprise. And every-time Murderess doesn't, it makes Hope feel a little better.
Doug x Lao: Old friends forced together after a loss so tremendous that there are no words for it. Doing your best to be there for your buddy, trying to pull hi out of the abyss he's falling into. Finding you enjoy spending time with him more and more. But no way you're gonna try to make anything more of it. Not anytime soon. Not after what he's been through. And then... it's too late. He's gone, you're alone, and you're haunted by a specter of what might have been.
