         moon is wrong. moon is utterly, completely wrong. she doesn’t know that, though. she doesn’t know all that his mother did to lillie and him; she doesn’t know all that went on that he could’ve stopped. he doesn’t fully know what lillie meant when she said mother had gotten so much worse when he left – she doesn’t know that he knows the full extent of her wrath. she doesn’t know what he left lillie to suffer through. she doesn’t know the reason lillie is crying so much, the reason lillie is so timid – the reason she’s so afraid – is because he didn’t protect her. not because he couldn’t, but because he chose to leave her behind. and that’s what hurt the most. his own cruelty. his own stupidity.

          maybe she’s teasing him – after all, he’s right there. though, maybe it’s because he’s not the cuddly type in the first place – at least, not until you take the time to break down each and every one of his walls. but he’d rather not go into all those feelings, so instead, he’ll opt to assume she’s teasing so he can tease her right back.

          gladion’s thoughts immediately gravitate toward his sister, because it’s true – whenever she smiled ( as rare as it became toward the end, before everything fell apart – though it’s hard to say things were ever together ), he saw the sun shine and flowers bloom all around them. but it’s not just her anymore. it’s the girl right in front of him, who’s changed the concept of the moon and the night from something to be feared to something to be adored. moon is the girl who saved him from fifteen years of abuse and two years of loneliness. she’s a bright, passionate girl; a girl who believes in the future and a girl who took everything he knew about reality and ripped it to shreds. and he’s so grateful for that. her smile shows him all that and more. her smile is just a little piece of her – one of the many things he loves about her – but at the same time, it’s everything.
