Reflection of the day (the origins of glitter) …
Yall my coach is really testing me. Last week he wouldnt let me row because my knees were bothering me on monday and he decided that I am too weak to row. So today I spoke to him to make sure I'm in the lineups for this week and this bitch decided to put me as a double shift for tomorrow. I think he wants to watch me break down.
Rowing post for anyone who understands
Me when practice started during covid: omg, we get to row in SINGLES?! This is gonna be so much fun! I’m so exited!
Me now: *screaming noises* erg days are fun days now and I hate everything
Drill chart!
“Cry me a river, build a bridge, and row under it.”
—Coach
Rush
A few years ago, when I was first-year varsity, I asked my coach what rush feels like. I’ve left his notes for y’all below:
Motivation
I’ve finally reached the point in my career where the coaches think all I really have to work on is motivation. I’m a good (enough) driver, I have a lot of knowledge about the sport, I’m good at correcting technique & fixing equipment. All that’s left is motivation. I’m usually good about it during the race (because there’s a lot going on & I can base things off of the crews around us), but during practice? not so much. We have a list in the boathouse of basic motivational phrases & other basic focus-y things (idk where they’re from but I didn’t come up with them on my own) that I figured I’d share:
Reminders:
Don’t fly & die
Breathe
Don’t be the weak link
Don’t be the Twinkie
There’s an actual story there if anyone’s interested I’ll share it
Make yourself/your team proud
Intensity!
Make every stroke count
Make it hurt
Keep it up/steady
Be aggressive
Where’s that fire?
Power!
This is nothing new
This is your sprint!
Don’t give up!
Make (team) proud!
Technical things:
Quick drives
Send!
Catch!
Snap!
Clean finishes!
Don’t wash out!
Backsplash!
Big puddles!
Set the boat!
Find the set!
Square up sooner
Find the swing
Timing!
Follow (stroke seat)
Motivation:
Give me all you’ve got
Bring those numbers down
You’re right there
Prove you have what it takes
How hard are you willing to work?
Don’t give up
Keep this up
Walk all over them
Hold them off
We’ve got this
No limits
Empty the tank
We’re so close
We’re invincible
I’m at __ seat, get me to __ seat!
Bend the oar, break the competition!
Make them think:
Why did you want to do this in the first place?
This is your choice
Focus on yourself
Your teammates are relying on you
You’ve come too far to give up
This is where you get stronger
This is where it all pays off
Show them we deserve it
Be proud of what you’ve put out
Make coach proud
Who are you doing this for?
This is what you’ve worked for
