Another reason why PD being a child is bad

If Pink Diamond is really Blue Diamond and Yellow Diamond’s child then what was the POINT of making Rose and the other CG’s so clueless about kids? They served the Diamonds in the past. You would think that the Diamonds would want to teach their armies how to look after their own child. It makes zero sense from an objective standpoint to go with this twist. This makes it look like Pink Diamond only died because her parents were totally neglectful of her safety. This new twist makes the Diamonds even LESS sympathetic than I think Rebecca realizes. Two characters being so neglectful that they let their child get murdered is not a sign we should pity them. If anything it means we should hate them more. Because it means they were so selfishly overly invested in their colonies that they neglected their own child. And the reason it makes Rose look worse is because this “twist” suggests that she did not care about the wellbeing of a child when rebelling. As much as I hate fascist slaveowners, I would never suggest to murder the children of fascists. Children of fascists are victims of fascism just as much as the minorities they target are. And the other way this makes Rose look worse is it means that she didn’t bother to fix her past mistakes by learning how to protect human children. It also makes Rose all the more hypocritical for bubbling Bismuth for just suggesting to shatter the remaining ADULT Diamonds.  Not only does this “plot twist” make Rose look worse, it makes the Diamonds worse too. I don’t even mean this in a joking way anymore. Becky PLEASE think about these writing directions before adding them. Just because someone wouldn’t think of the idea you came up with doesn’t make it a good one. If the “plot twist” means it makes your characters that you want us to sympathize with unintentionally look worse, IT’S BAD WRITING. Why are the crewniverse so incapable of understanding this simple fact? I am so goddamn frustrated with these inept writers. I’m autistic and I was able to spot these severe fundamental flaws in this twist. I can’t understand why these self proclaimed progressive adults with COLLEGE EDUCATIONS are unable to.

Steven Universe? More like Worship Pearl the show

Also my other issue with Pearl being the one to shatter Pink Diamond is that means crewniverse better fucking bubble her next. Otherwise they are absolute hypocrites for bubbling Bismuth just for WANTING to shatter the Diamonds. If they don’t that confirms what we SU crits have been saying all along. Which is that the Bismuth episode’s ending was just incredibly anti-black. #BubblePearl2k18.

Me: Wow this episode The Zoo is really fucked up so far. We’re getting close to the ending and Steven and Greg haven’t made plans to free the slaves yet. I hope they do that eventually- Steven: *shrugs* They seem like they’re happy- Me: Excuse me? Is that a real scene or did I just hallucinate that shit? Did Steven, the always morally pure protag just claim that these slaves are happy? Did Steven just insinuate that only people who express their trauma how Pearl and Lapis do are valid? Is this really the hill that you chose to die on Becky?

My prediction for how Pearl being a child murderer will be handled

Steven: PEARL HOW COULD YOU MURDER A CHILD! THAT’S ILLEGAL! Pearl: I did it cuz I was gay for Rose though. Also I’m Pearl. Steven: Welp! Can’t argue with that, cuz the crewniverse loves you!

Honestly since it’s been established Steven can have Diamond dreams unprompted, there’s zero reason for us to have to wait forty more episodes before we ever see White Diamond. If the crewniverse wanted to they could just let him see how everything went down through Pink Diamond’s eyes next episode. The way this has been set up they’d have to pull something convoluted to avoid this outcome. Like you know, insist on more needless filler.

You know I think I’ve kind of realized where the problem comes with in so many fans being confused about who’s a villain and who isn’t. It’s the emotional tone of the show. When a character is sad they’re always portrayed in a sympathetic light and it’s often used to prove they’re a good guy. When a character is angry even for a good reason it’s always used to demonize them and prove they’re being bad. Even the writers themselves seem to genuinely believe this is a good way of distinguishing who’s irredeemable and who’s redeemable. It’s no wonder stans can’t understand that Blue Diamond is objectively a villain despite being sad. And that Bismuth is objectively a misunderstood vigilante despite wanting to kill her oppressors. The writers certainly don’t help with that issue when they keep portraying the wrong things with a morally grey tone.

My thoughts on Jaspis discourse

Something I feel should be clarified about my opinion on Lapis considering how...crazy the Jaspis discourse has gotten. Even when I reblog posts that point out that Lapis has done wrong too in the Jaspis arc, that doesn’t mean I think Jasper is innocent. Far from it. Jasper DID help capture Lapis after all. And we saw from Jailbreak that she’s not against being cruel to prisoners. My problem with Lapis’ arc is that it tries too hard to make you feel bad for her in the wrong ways. It acts like she was completely innocent in the Malachite arc but from what we saw we KNOW that isn’t true. Yeah she was doing it to defend Steven but the way she did it was so unnecessary that I find it hard to justify. Especially when we’re shown that in Alone at Sea, she could’ve punted a completely physically healed Jasper into the ocean. There was literally no reason to force Jasper to fuse as Malachite. Yeah, Lapis was tired from the ship exploding in Jailbreak but we have zero reason to think her energy affects her powers’ stability. That doesn’t seem to be the case. She could’ve easily just poofed Jasper in Jailbreak. That would’ve been safer for Steven if she had. My problem with believing her claim that she forced Malachite into existence for Steven’s sake is that Malachite caused more damage than she prevented.  On top of the fact that Lapis even admitted Malachite was a power trip for her. She admitted it was more about needlessly lashing out at Jasper extra than it ever was about protecting Steven from Jasper. That’s what I’m so frustrated about with Lapis’ arc.I wouldn’t care so much about the Malachite arc if Lapis was held accountable for how it potentially put Steven in MORE danger. Yes, Lapis is clearly a PTSD victim and yes she’s still recovering. But neither reasons are good ones for how dangerous her Malachite plan was. And neither reasons are good ones for not holding her accountable for that in the narrative. Like, what’s the point in bringing up how horrible it is to make forced fusions if when Lapis does it it’s never properly addressed as such? I don’t like this show bringing up an idea with very sensitive impolications and then not holding EVERY character who perpetuates it as toxic That’s one of the many things that I hate about her current arc. It comes across as a weird kind of favoritism on the writers’ part.  And I shouldn’t have to say why that’s bad. I wanna see Lapis be called out on how dangerous and unneeded the forced Malachite fusion was. I wanna see her held accountable for it instead of treated as a lost soft baby who can do no wrong. I wanna see her learn healthier coping mechanisms than lashing out at all stressful situations. I wanna see Lapis be a character outside of her PTSD because I don’t feel like she is right now. That’s all I want out of the Lapis redemption arc if the Malachite arc mess is really THAT necessary.  I’m of the opinion that both Jasper and Lapis did wrong in the Malachite arc. And that it frustrates me that even the writers can’t see that considering what Lapis did. I don’t think both were abusers though. The way the arc was so sloppily executed, I can’t find an abuse allegory in it at all. I think it was more about power dynamic struggles and showing how their clashing Homeworld-centric ideologies is what caused all the issues their relationship has. And this is coming from someone who doesn’t completely hate Lapis. In fact I like her and can relate to her in a lot of aspects. That’s why I’m so frustrated with how her arc turned out to be mostly wish fulfillment imo.

It’s a nitpick and idk if anyone’s pointed this out before or not but WHY does Pearl have so many colors in her color scheme? For the most part other gems have had color schemes that fit their gems’ color. But if we’re going by the idea of Pearl being a clear Pearl it doesn’t make sense that she has so many. Though I could see how making a character have an all white color scheme would be rather difficult to color/animate. Then maybe instead she could have two consistent colors going on at most. The fact that she’s got more than three and all ones that don’t thematically follow a Pearl’s real life colors is jarring. It just feels like crewniverse gave her all the main pastel colors for aesthetic. Even when I used to be a Pearl stan I was never really a fan of how her color scheme was like that. Like idk maybe make her main colors be grey and pink? Grey since that’d be more practical for a color scheme than just plain white and pink because she idolizes Rose. Or maybe even make her primary color be teal and other shades of it for some better consistency.  The former suggestion is what I’d do anyways if I revised her color scheme.
