Serial Killers, What is America’s Perverse Fascination With Them?

                                                                                      I’ll admit, I don’t have the answer to that question, but read on for some truly chilling thoughts, facts and information about a weirdly popular subject if TV shows on the subject are any indication. Okay, I'll admit to having a crime show (Forensic Files type) obsession.  Can't get enough of the damn things.  Right now, I probably have 35 shows backed up on my DVR.  Every time I start whittling down that number, I always find more that I just don't want to miss.  I do know one fact that wasn't necessarily so 35 years ago, with today's forensic capabilities, you can't get away with nothin'.So, why did I want to write about Serial Killers?  Besides the fact that I find the subject fascinating, today, July 29th is the anniversary of the reign of terror that David Berkowitz, (better known as the "Son of Sam" serial killer) started his reign of terror in the NYC metropolitan area in 1976. Berkowitz would go on to murder 6 people over the next year making for very uneasy times for anyone venturing out at night in the NY Metropolitan area. The FBI estimates that there are between 25 and 50 Serial killers operating in the United States at any given time.  That alone should make for restless nights in bed.
