In the eyes of laws of the United States Felonies are serious crimes. And they are given the highest degree of punishments prevalent in the U.S, based on the action performed. Any person who is accused for the crime of Felony has to look for legal help. The criminal along with being punished with imprisonment and penalties, has also to lose his/her many rights like right of vote, right of getting a government job, serving in military services and being a part of any jury, for their life time. For most severe felonies the criminal is given the life time imprisonment and even death sentence in the United States. The punishments are more severe for those who repeat their crimes.
There are many types of Felonies that are being identified by the United States Criminal laws. List of felonies are further categorized based on the action being taken and set of actions being followed to complete that felony.
List of felonies are as below:
· Felonies Against a Person – these are the actions being taken against a person and based on the severity of the crime it being considered as Felony. Various type of Felonies under this are Assault, sexual assault, murders, kidnapping, battery, homicides, manslaughter, etc.
· Crimes against Property - these are the crimes being done against the property of a person. Such crimes include Embezzlement, Larceny Arson, Burglary, Extortion, Robbery, Theft, Larceny etc.
· Crimes against Justice – these are crimes that are done against the government of United States, it can be a crime at the federal, state or local level. These Felonies include Obstruction of Justice, Perjury, Compounding, Misprision, Perverting the course of justice, etc.

· Driving while Intoxicated
· Forgery and counterfeiting
· Offenses against family and children
· Property crime (includes burglary, larceny, theft, motor vehicle theft, and arson.)
· Stolen property (buying, receiving, possession)
· Violent crime (including murder, non-negligent manslaughter, forcible rape, robbery, aggravated assault.
· Weapons violations (carrying or possession)
All of the above mentioned felonies are given severe punishments by U.S. Law suitors. Felony crimes are those, which are serious in nature. Along with categorization, Felony is also divided in various levels. Class 1 Felony is considered to be the most serious of all classifications. Under Class 1, the accused is at minimum given life-time imprisonment and Penalty for death in the worst case. Class 2 felonies come next and here the accused has to bear least 20 years of imprisonment and at max life-time imprisonment. Class 3 felonies are categorized as imprisonment with tenure of 5 to 20 years. Next comes Class 4, here the imprisonment of the accused is for a tenure of 2-10 years. Class 5 accused have to serve little less, where term of imprisonment is 1-10 years and jail up to 12 months. Class 6 is the least severe where the accused needs to serve a term of 1 year or less in jail.
On top of punishment provided by federal government, state level governments also lavvy their punishments for the accused.
