THE REST OF HER WORLD HAS DISINTEGRATED, but Echo Galaeus refuses to let the AGENT title she once held so dear go to waste in the presence of a parasite. When she enters this fight, it comes with a singular focus: to look them in the eye when she kills them, really kills them, because there won’t be a way to come back if Hydra keeps winning. She didn’t get the honor to destroy Rumlow, so she’ll take this fight very personally at the side of Hill and Coulson while simultaneously evacuating the subway. And even if it feels like they’re winning with the quick reload of her assault rifle and every blast from Stark’s Iron Man suit ( a short-lived retirement, she reckons ) Hydra has decided to throw a hail mary in their efforts; an all or nothing approach to the fight by destroying the very underground pocket.
It doesn’t matter, because she’s determined to get the last car vacated. Echo grabs the hand of a shaken college student ( Go ---- GO! ) fighting to leave the station as she urges her to the stairs, covering her with misleading fire as the remaining Hydra agents scramble to find cover. They almost make it, too ------ the girl manages to hit the stairs just as the final explosion sounds, but the world flashes before Echo’s eyes in a brilliant white until all that remains in confetti debris is crimson and gold.
When she opens her eyes, she doesn’t see an old friend or the shrouds of Death. Somehow she’s ended up on her back in a space between the destroyed ceiling and the Iron Man suit. She can feel the trickle of blood drip down the side of her face and into her hair, but that’s not why she stares bewildered. “-----I’m fine.” It falls short of a murmur, though she nods adamantly to prove her point.( She wishes she could see if he’s just as shocked as she is. ) “I’m fine, I’m okay, Might’ve --- sprained somethin’, maybe, I don’t know.” She’ll deny it later, but her questions are soft. “Are you okay? Did she make it out?”
