CRIT
Today, we had our first crit of the second semester. This one was going to be with first years so I was excited to see what they were all up to. I decided to show a mix of work I’d made since the last crit; one of the images from the show I did collectively, a few rugs I’d made, and what I currently have on my rug frame.
I really enjoyed this crit, even though it was super long. Everyone gave lots of input and it catalysed lots of interesting conversations.
I got some great feedback for my work. I think everyone’s favourite image was the one I edited of me holding a fish rug on a boat, as it added an extra layer to the piece, and encouraged the viewer to begin considering a narrative. I’d found this a more effective, and fun, way to present my work, especially when we’re more confined to instagram as a means of exhibiting. I also dicussed where I see my work progressing to.
Overall, it was really good to hear opinions on my work. Especially how people perceived what I’m making, considering things like motif, texture, accessibility. It was a super interesting crit!
