Instafriends

Admittedly, I was fairly hesitant sharing my post on Instagram with my friends. Yet one of my criteria was to be able to connect with friends through this social media platform. Now obviously this hesitation was quite irrational; so after a few days I decided that I would discretely let people know that I had an Instagram.

Biting the bullet I posted one of my Instagram posts on Facebook, through the Instagram app!

Soon, I had people liking my posts, adding me as friends, and even using the chat feature to contact me. 

I appreciate the ease of being able to view my friend’s posts, as well as being able to independently just send them a post, as opposed to having a post be public for everybody to see.  

Visible from my home screen, one can see how many “followers” they have as well as how many they are “following”.

The interesting thing about Instagram, is the people who you have no connection to in real life have the ability- should you so choose in your privacy settings- to follow you as well. For some people, their Instagram is more of a platform to keep in touch with friends. For others, it’s to post artsy photos for the worlds to see. For most, it’s a combination of the two.

Maximum: 8 At the end of year 3, students should be able to:

1. Develop a design specification which outlines the success criteria for the design of a solution based on the data collected

2. Present a range of feasible ideas, which can be correctly interpreted by others

3. Present the chosen design and outline the reasons for its selection

4. Develop accurate planning drawings/diagrams and outline requirements for the creation of the chosen solution

The student:

o constructs a list of the success criteria for the design of a solution

o presents a few feasible design ideas, using an appropriate medium(s) or explains key features, which can be interpreted by others

o outlines the main reasons for choosing the design with reference to the design specification

o creates planning drawings/diagrams or lists requirements for the chosen solution.

5-6

The student:

o develops design specifications, which identify the success criteria for the design of a solution

o presents a range of feasible design ideas, using an appropriate medium(s) and explains key features, which can be interpreted by others

o presents the chosen design and outlines the main reasons for its selection with reference to the design specification

o develops accurate planning drawings/diagrams and lists requirements for the creation of the chosen solution

The student:

Training before going into the industry

Apprenticeships for technical theatre and production lighting are available are on websites such as “notgointouni.co.uk” and “hotcourse.co.uk” and starting costs are only around £400 a year. They are a good way of getting on-job experience aswell as paid casual work depending on what apprenticeship you have. These courses can also help you to network and job work after the course has finished. They are also now more recognised than before by employment, some companies only search among people having done apprenticeships for experienced hands-on workers.

Another form of training before going into the industry in university of drama school which provide a range of technical theatre related 3 year degrees. These kind of courses also provide on job experience when in your third ear but can be more beneficial academically rather than physically.

I personally have decided to further my training through a university degree as I feel academic training is more important initially than physical training, which can be learnt through work and over time.

unit 79 - discussing with directors and company

as a designer, your ideas must be shared to the directors so that they can see what they want and point out anything that could be altered. it helps to converse and discuss with the directors so you can ask what key structures and areas could be. its also a good way to discuss the style of the structures.

during production meetings is the chance to show the company and tech teams your designs and eventually the final model box piece that you have created. this is where you can get some constructive criticism from both sides and allow the teams to ask questions that could interfere with their department such as putting a light in a certain area and whether it will be useful or if an actor can reach an area to perform or be allowed to perform on top of a structure.
