finally getting back on my "actually doing the CR2 rewatch instead of just writing fic all the time" on account of my face hurting too much for me to write.

so as I've been writing fic I'd been just being like "yeah I'll just give Essek Sending because I need it even though I know it's not technically canonical, after all he has Uraya contact the Mighty Nein on his behalf that one time"

and then I actually went back to watching c2e90 and lo and behold, two hours in we have Essek:

so then I went to check because I was like "huh am I misremembering the thing about Uraya" and 28 episodes later:

unless, you know, you're scared to actually address these people directly for the first time (by your initiation) since they uncovered your retroactive betrayal.

and decide to phone a friend to do it for you. buddy.

the only saving grace here for Essek is that it does seem that she was actually on Eiselcross at some point, at least based on the fact that he says she went "back" to Rosohna, because otherwise (and this was my first thought), he used Sending to contact a friend to tell his friend to contact Jester via Sending.

recognizing that the animated show is already changing many things, and certainly will minor details that are not particularly important in the scheme of major events, but I am chewing on the question of how an essek who not only heads up the attack on the trispire to retake the beacon but is identified during it ends up in a meeting with ludinus in nicodranas indicating that he has been in ongoing contact with the assembly since the theft.

and like. very interested to see, if those two things coexist in the same version of canon, how we get there.
