It's a crocatiel
Some quick original aliens doodles I did during lunch today- I’m slowly trying to re-design my alien species to reduce the number of them with ‘human’ five fingered hands with thumbs, and five-toed feet. I’m fairly happy with a lot of the other features, but I’m having a harder time being happy with alien-looking hand setups. They instinctively look weird, but having all these varied aliens who all inexplicably have perfect human hands looks -just- as weird pfff.
crocatiels still have the hands but I went into more detail on their semi-zygodactyl feet, and Calliopae are more like koalas or chameleons in terms of their hands now!
also FT. Crocatiel-planet plants! Which are actually more like photosynthetic animals. The ‘roots’ are arms covered in cilia that feed micronutrients+water to a mouth, and the leaves are folding fans full of something akin to chloroplasts. Some may or may not be more outright mobile than others, and I think a lot will have a seedling stage that is fully mobile to help them disperse and not compete with the parent plant.
Some original aliens stuff that I forgot to post!
The top pic is a really old Altamaran side char of mine, Mamoru! He’s basically a greeter/bellhop for a living and his hobby is keeping the alien equivalent of fancy chickens.
The bottom pic is an unspecified Shremp and Crocatiel going for a walk!
Some redesigns of characters from around..... 2011, so seven years ago at the time of posting this!
They were originally part of a small college class project, and referenced heavily from my own sci fi world building ideas: For instance, they weren’t specifically Crocatiels but they may as well have been, barring things like having pupils and alternative human versions of their character designs.
They somehow got brought up in conversation a little while back, so at the time I thought why don’t I have a quick go at drawing them as more modern crocatiel designs? My world build stuff is always in some kind of changing limbo but I like these two in their current makeover! <3
Originally they were antagonists taking part in something called ‘Project Implanta’ which involved making reptile-human hybrid monsters in a bid to make something similar to the mythical concept of intelligent dragon-like beings. In my actual world builds, that would probably mean doing experiments with the genetics of these things.
My commission info!
go little crocatiel, go<3
I'm not a natural animator, I find it really hard to envision things moving or how to draw that in sequence. But hey, crocatiels are meant to be kind of awkward at walking on solid ground, so we can both struggle together.
