A distinctive cultivar Crocosmia × crocosmiiflora 'Emily McKenzie' (montbretia) has vivid orange flowers that have a dark red ring in the centre. This cormous, herbaceous perennial flowers in late summer into the autumn, it requires a moderately fertile, humus rich soil.

The yellow blooms of Crocosmia × crocosmiiflora 'George Davison' (montbretia) made a great association growing through the foliage and purple flower spikes of a Nepeta cultivar (catmint, catnip). Both plants favour a sunny location and free draining soil.
